Here's the additional swedish translations. I wasn't sure about which encoding
format to save it with, so I saved with UTF-8. If this is wrong (Swedish has
lots of å, ä and ö) someone please tell and I'll re-save it and re-attach

Also what about all the additions of strings, will these strings be merged with
the first batch of strings, so we can make a unified translation of all of them.

An idea might be to put all of the translations in a po-file which could be
available in cvs/svn and give translators access to that repository.

Merging all these translations require some work. I've planned to use them for
hoary but I'll probably do some uploads this week. I think that's not an issue
to translation them correctly, they are easy to find in the UI so translators
have the context.

> Also what about all the additions of strings, will these strings be merged with

I'm not sure to understand the question but the language-packs allow to update
the translations whenever we want.

The idea is to use rosetta for the differents translation. Ie: putting the
gnome-panel translation from the package in rosetta (which includes the upstream
strings and the package changes) and update the language-packs with the rosetta
po files. So translators only have to update the po here. By the way for the
moment the language-pack updates from rosetta are not running, that's why this
bug is open.

Yes, you are right in that, but its hard to keep track which strings needs to be
translated, if the work here would be pushed to hoary soon, it would be easier
to spot the remaining strings.

In this bugreport people have added new strings which needs to be translated, it
is does strings I am talking about. It would be nice to agregate all the strings
here and put them in one post which then can be grabed by the translators and we
can make a new attachment containing all of the translations.

Okay. How about pushing changes upstream? Like im translating Gnome to Danish
and firstly I push my translations to the GTP, then I guess I should translate
the ubuntu specific stuff in rosetta.

Btw the use of language packs, does this mean that everytime a new translation
is available for example upgrading evolution a new language pack would be
pushed, with all of the translations instead of just the translations specific
for evolution?
Also does this mean that when a program is updated that the translations will be
out of sync until a language pack has been pushed? Like I see with Totem which
doesnt have a Danish translation at the moment, but used to, which makes it
useless for people who does not understand English?

The translations are not outdated, again you have a local issue on that.

(I've asked to Martin to comment on the language-packs question)

For a development release we update the language packs fairly often. For stable
releases we plan to ship update language packs every month. These packages will
only contain files that actually changed, the bulk of translations are in the
language-pack-foo-base packages.

Correct. That's why we do updates relatively often in a development release.

If you really want to use a development release instead of a stable one, this is
one of the things you just have to live with.

So users of the stable version will have translations which are out of sync with
the programs they have installed, do I understand this correct?

This is a big setback imho from warty, what do users gain having translations
which are out of sync with the programs they have installed?

I _dont_ want to use a development release, I am a translator therefore I have
that installed along with my stable release, so that I can test it before the
new release has been made and report bugs before it is too late.

No, a stable distibution has no version changes for the packages (only security
fixes) so the string don't changes.

You sync the other way. The goal is not to have the translations out of sync,
but different packages for the translations and the software. That allows to
update the translation in a stable branch without updating new packages for the
applications, to make localized CDs, etc

Right, the system is in work and not perfect yet. What you face at the moment is
a cache issue described in the other bug. We have updated translation when
required for the GNOME updates (ie: I've asked to Martin to force some sync just
after the 2.10 uploads).

This one is not listed because "Network" is already translated, I'll probably
drop the "_" for the moment to get the translation.

Yes but _Network as you say is not translated, why drop the _ then there will be
no shortcut?

the options are:
- drop the "_" and get a translation for all the languages
- keep the "_" and get a translations for 7-8 languages (according to the
feedbacks on this bug)
- keep the "_", use the "Network" translation and look on all the translations
to put a "_" on a letter which doesn't conflict

The option 3 is nice is somebody wants to send a patch. We are pretty busy with
other bugs for hoary, if we don't get a patch that will be one of the two first
options.

In the Danish translation of:

System -> Administration -> Device Manager

Device Manager has been translated to =Enhedshåndtering which is wrong.

The equal sign (=) should not be there, I guess it is a typo.

if the packages are updated for hoary.

Okay here they are:
Programs -> Graphics -> Gimp - Billedbehandling
Programs -> Graphics -> Inkscape - Vektor-illustrator
Programs -> Graphics -> XSane - Billedskanning

Ups, I must have fumbled with my keyboard and mouse, I did not know that I

Maybe it's too late, but this is updated zh_CN (simplified Chinese)

The shortcut to evolution is present two places, one is translated the other is not.

Danish
1. Programmer -> Internet -> Evolution - e-post-program
2. Programmer -> Kontor -> Evolution

Are both shortcuts needed?

If they are I guess number two should be like number 1.

Okay, I have translated the few remaining bits for a complete Danish translation
of the shortcuts :o)

1. Applications -> Office
   OpenOffice.org Drawing -> OpenOffice.org - Vektor illustrator
   OpenOffice.org Math -> OpenOffice.org - Formelredigering
   OpenOffice.org Presentation -> OpenOffice.org - Præsentationer
   OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet -> OpenOffice.org - Regneark
   OpenOffice.org Word Processor -> OpenOffice.org - Tekstbehandling
   OpenOffice.org Writer/Web -> OpenOffice.org - Hjemmesideredigering

2. Applications -> Internet
   Firefox Web Browser -> Firefox - Webbrowser

3. Applications -> Graphics
   Gimp Image Editor -> Gimp - Billedbehandling

language packs work for applications, not for the desktop files. We will use
them for breezy
