Bug Description
This bug happens with a nvidia geforce 8xxx card and ubuntu amd64
I have a fresh install of Gutsy Gibbon Beta, on an EM64T architecture. The problem is that after selecting the GRUB menu entry to boot Ubuntu, the screen turns black and does not show nothing again.
In order to boot Ubuntu, I have to edit the boot options and change "splash" to "nosplash". It is possible to make usplash working by using the blacklisted vesafb framebuffer.
Workaround to remove usplash :
1. At boot, press Esc to access the boot menu.
2. Choose ubuntu and the press the "e" key to edit
3. With the arrow keys, go to the "kernel" line and press "e" to edit
4. Remove "splash" and "quiet" from the line and press "enter"
5. Press "b" to boot your computer.
To remove usplash permanently, you can remove "splash" and "quiet" from the kernel line in your /boot/grub/menu.lst file.
