Bug Description

When I boot the LiveCD (i386) and in the initial menu after pressing F4 choose anything else except VGA, and then choose to run the CD, the screen goes blank - but the monitor doesnt seem to loose the signal (it only goes blank) - no splash, no progress bar untill x starts. If I leave the default option VGA, then the splash appears, so does the progress bar, but at a low resolution AND the progress bar is off centre (moved to the right). I have a Nvidia MX4000 128MB RAM, Samsung Syncmaster 757NF.
There are similair bug reports, but noone mentioned the low resolution and the progress bar being off centre.

Thanks for your bug report and for your contribution to ubuntu.

I've also see these problems with gutsy tribe CD but not in the latest. Can you try the final release Cd and confirm if this bug still exist?
Concerning the F4 key, I think that it is normal that usplash won't appear if the resolution is manually changed.

On my i386 machine the usplash works fine, only on my 64bit it doesn't, though the ubuntu system that I put on a USB-stick works fine on the 64bit system so could there be something wrong with the 64bit build of usplash ?

Bert Van de Poel : If you have a nvidia 8xxx card and don't see usplash, this is bug 147623

The bug did speak about the ubuntu LiveCD usplash which had a bad resolution and not in the center of the screen. Is that exactly the problems that you can reproduce? Thanks for your fast answer.

Bert Van de Poel : This bug as so duplicates, I know it pretty well :) bug 147623 as already a lot of relevant information so I think that all you need to do is wait. Thanks for the confirmation.

orange2k : Can you look at Gutsy final release and tell if you still have the issues you described?

yes it does duplicate, however this bug seems to me as the duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/usplash/+bug/147623
and there are some workarounds similair to my solutions to bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/150930

orange2k : Thanks for your answer. You said that you has a "decentralized" usplash at boot and a low resolution. bug 147623 is about completely absent splash screen on ubuntu 64 bit with a nvidia geforce 8xxx card. In your case, you used a i386 CD so it's sure that this is not this bug. Also, this can be normal that usplash does not show if you choose different VGA than the normal one since the resolution of the screen need to be higher than the usplash theme.

Concerning bug 150930, do you also have problems with usplash once ubuntu Gutsy final release is installed on your computer? If yes, we should speak on this issue on another bug report since it happens in different circumstances than the original description of your bug report. One bug per report always need developers to fix the bugs.

When you use the ubuntu gutsy final release live CD, do you still get "decentralized" and low quality usplash screen?

I don`t have the same hardware since my bug report, so I cant test it under the same circumstances.
Now I have a 64-bit Gutsy final and a nvidia geforce 8500 GT card, the usplash is completely absent, but the workaround I posted in bug 150930 fixes the problem.

Gutsy final and Hardy alpha 4 (I tried Ubuntu and Kubuntu) LiveCDs have the same issue, and I can`t get the usplash with any of the available resolution options.

I am a little confused with all these bug reports because I only know about the symptoms and dont know what package it relates to - if its Ubiquity, Usplash or something else, so Im sorry that I posted yet another duplicate bug report...
