Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

My configuration: Intel Q6600 Quad Core, Gigabyte Motherboard - 4GB Ram - Nvidia 8500GT

Gutsy RC will lose video (ie. go blank screen) during graphical install... You can get around this by doing a text install; however, when booting the newly installed system you will lose video at the bootsplash.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Download Gutsy 64 Bit Release Candidate
2) Do a test install (graphic install doesn't work, as stated above).
3) Boot into the newly installed System...

It seems that the bootsplash is responsible for losing video. The system does not freeze, in fact it continues booting, but you just never get your video back, thus rendering it useless.

A temporary fix, that I found, is to change "splash" to "nosplash" in the grub config. You will not have bootsplash, but at least you can boot into X after that fix.

One more comment.. I am using DVI out on my Geforce 8500GT card. I haven't tried with VGA out.

I am having this problem as well. In fact I had a working installation of an earlier release that was working fine on a Nvidia EVGA 6600 and after an upgrade to a new Nvida EVGA 8800 GTS this problem began. I am also using the DVI output and noticed this problem does not exist within the 32bit version of Gutsy.

I have a GeForce 8500 GT card - and I have the same problem with kernel-*-14 (which comes with the rc I think). The earlier kernel-*-13 from beta works, but gives no spash.
