Bug Description

My Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Xi 2528 shows the manual display configuration manager at first boot with 64bit version

This computer has an EM64T processor and so, i decided to test AMD64 version, and so, in Gutsy and Hardy-alpha4, the LCD panel is not correctly detected by xorg (with nv). Installing nvidia driver and manually setting screen to "LCD 1440x900" instead of "Plug'n Play" corrects the problem but i think configuration detection is a little bit buggy because 32bit version of these ubuntu releases works correctly.

When first starting xorg, I get the message :
Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode
your screen and graphics card could not be detected correctly
Always run in low-graphics mode ?

   configure... / Shutdown / Continue

When i click on "configure...", screen is set to "plug'n'play", with 800x600 @ 61Hz,
and graphic card is set to vesa, but the name of graphic card is correctly set
to "NVIDIA GeForce 8 Series".

whene I choose LCD Panel 1440x900 (widescreen) as screen, with the correct
resolution : 1440x900@60Hz and when i set the driver to "nv", then the test works
very well, but when I click "OK" , the login manager is still in 800x600.

After login, I can do exactly the same manual configuration with "screen and graphics manager" and
when i log off, login manager uses the correct resolution, everything works well .

Since Hardy is using xorg 7.3, the problem is systematic at each boot, and so, i can easily test things to give more informations. Is there something I can do to check precisely where does the bug comme from ?

With Hardy Alpha5, I do not need to manually configure screen : I just need to install Hardy (with alternate install CD because framebuffer and LCD panel detection are buggy and livecd cannot work) and then, I use jockey to install nvidia-glx-new and everything works fine.

correction of bug #147623 will probably make the detection evolve
