Bug Description

I have the wireless Kobo and have been using Calibre almost since I first got it. I have just updated to the latest version (0.8.9) just in case that helps. My operating system's Windows 7

Lately, my Kobo hasn't been processing new content. I reset it and tried again. Now I'm getting an error message in Calibre and even the pre-loaded books aren't showing up in the device tab.

I tried deleting and loading the images folder and KoboReader.sqlite as that corrected someone elses problem, that looked like it might be similar.

Here's the remainder of the error message:

calibre, version 0.8.9
ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device

  File "site-packages\calibre\devices\kobo\driver.py", line 609, in reset_favouritesindex

I followed the directions on the link below, also to no avail. This is the information from the debug:

I have the same problem.

Version 0.8.8 worked fine, version 0.8.9 does not.

I also have a Kobo Touch - both 0.8.8 and 0.8.9 work fine with it.

Try upgrading to the latest firmware or run in debug mode and send me
the output. I won't have access to my Wifi model until this evening.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for coming back to me so quickly.

I've just reconnected my Kobo to try your suggestions. Still nothing showing in the device memory, I'm not sure why I keep thinking that might change! Tried to send a book to the Kobo, didn't work (what a surprise). Tried to call the Kobo helpdesk yesterday. Couldn't stay on hold for long enough!!

Debug mode gave me the following first error message:

Was this the wifi version? If so it should be at version 1.9.x and
the database version should be 14. If you nitice what you posted it
is lower that that. Regardless there is an issue that I will resolve
for next week at the latest.

Should I wait till Friday for the next release or uninstall 8.9 and reinstall an earlier version? The last download that I saved to My Downloads was 8.4 My OS is WIndows XP.
Thanks,

I´ve the same problem on my PC with windows 7 last night. My kobo e-reader was without the latest firmware.

Just now, after upgrade it from 1.7.4 (r21889, dec 6, 2010) to 1.9 (r25373, mar 29, 2011), it work like a charm.

Suggest connect your kobo to your Mac (usb cable) and (using the kobo software), sync this (it updates the firmware).

I have windows 7 and I believe all of my stuff is updated to the current version. last week I used calibre to add some books to my kobo and it worked. Last night I plugged the kobo into the pc to charge and it said updating, and a bunch of my books disappeared and now calibre gives me an error. I really do not know what I am doing, so bear with me please.

For the wifi version it is under the advanced options. You may want to read
the details on the mobileread forum

I am wondering. When I phoned the KOBO help desk, why didn't the suggest
doing the reset? It worked so good and I would have been happy, again,
sooner with my ereader than finding out this a month later.

Did you try the factory reset from the menus on the Kobo? I had a similar
problem a while ago, with an older version of Calibre and it worked
perfectly. I haven't had any trouble since.
