And that's it, doesn't tell me what's missing!

After I installed it (it's now called icedax) it still didn't work.

Yep I had the cdda2wav message before I installed icedax, now just the empty message

I patched it to use icedax and it works now for me.
Maybe brasero should depend on icedax by default as rhythmbox also uses brasero to copy audio CDs.
(which doesn't work, it creates a new CD with sr0 as a file to copy)

Getting it too. First time it showed it said to install cdda2wav but it showed it twice as if it were two different things. Now doesn't list anything.

When I try to copy a CD with brasero on newly installled Ubuntu 10.04. Got the following error message: All required applications and libraries are not installed. And lists that toc2cue (program) and cdrdao (program) are missing. I installed cdrdao (sudo apt-get install cdrdao). Now I got the same error message but an empty list of what componets that are missing.

I think this worked fine on Ubuntu 9.10.

This still happens on the Lucid as of today, I get a prompt to install toc2cue, which seems to be absent from the repo's, not sure how to fix this.
I can also confirm that this issue did not exists on Karmic (9.10)

As a workaround, it's possible to create a "Readcd/Readom" image using Brasero and burning this image afterwards. But sadly this is far from a good solution for novice users.

This is caused from a upstream commit "Check version of applications for plugins now":

So, a symlink workaround to icedax return a wrong version that expect from cdda2wav.

NOTE: this affect also cdrecord and mkisofs. The affected package maybe is cdrkit.

Thanks for the patch Steffen, since its not something we can package to fix the problem, I'm rejecting the patch. Like bassl has mentioned in the bug report, upgrading cdrdao is the way to go to fix this issue. Meanwhile, folks can use this workaround

Yeah, same here, on a Lucid fresh install.

Another good workaround is to install CDRDAO and use that as a standalone CD backup program. CDRDAO runs from the command line, and although its man page and documentation are rather byzantine, there is an excellent Ubuntu tutorial here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=795181. Once you get CDRDAO working on its own you might not even want to go back to Brasero :)

I installed cdrdao but Brasero and tells me 'an old version. I installed the new version of cdrdao http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/.
Brasero is the control of audio tracks on the disc but when you burn the disc ejects.
I think it is a problem of cdrdao to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04.
Please assign the bug to a developer, I think that the bug is widespread and serious in a LTS.

Doing cdrecord -v -dao dev=1,1,0 /directory/filename.iso in a terminal works fine, brasero can make the images (cd or dvd) but can not burn them.

From someone who doesn't actually do any coding work on Ubuntu, I don't like to criticize.... but ;
In terms of Ubuntu's commitment to providing as good a release as reasonably possible, this bug in particular is very disappointing. To read the words 'hopefully' and 'maverick' when considering a bug which affects a major component of the Ubuntu desktop (something that is part of the user experience, part of the OS itself, as brasero is very much weaved in as 'inbuilt functionality of Ubuntu') is a bit of a shock.
For those who can get around this, the more clever 'users' who can choose another alternative application to provide the same functionality (such as k3b) things are, while not nice, doable. There is a work around for us.
However, I have set up Ubuntu on the computer of my mother. This is hardly the kind of situation that some potential users can 'survive' with. I'd imagine there are many other such cases, and a bug like this, more than many other kinds of bugs, prevents the wider up-take of the OS. Considering the idea of Ubuntu 'just working' ... this particular bug breaks Ubuntu. It is one thing an application like Gimp having a bug, as it is not a major part of 'the user experience'. But Brasero?

There should be more importance in fixing bugs like this. Where is shuttleworth? This is not just a papercut, it is a bit deeper.

I'm a volunteer developer to the project. For what its worth, I've been trying to do this for the past 4 hours without success because CVS repositories are a bit difficult to dissect. I've also written to the debian maintainer. I also intend to provide the package through a ppa if I can't the fix directly into Lucid. A little patience would be much appreciated.

sorry. My comment was not intended to be directed at volunteers, or indeed, at the developers at all. More at those within the Ubuntu 'organisation' organising the priority of such work.

It would be nice if as svaens said 'users can choose another alternative application to provide the same functionality' but for me, k3b makes coasters, all is fine until finalise (which it tries to do in 4 seconds) which fails, and no the disk is not readable.

GnomeBaker intermittently makes coasters (reason unknown), the solution which is pretty much gauranteed to work for me, is as I have previously mentioned, (code)cdrecord -v -dao dev=1,1,0 /directory/filename.iso(end code) dev=1,1,0 is where my dvd burner lives, to find yours do, (code)cdrecord -scanbus(end code) the finalise works and takes about 19 seconds.

For anyone who is new to Ubuntu (linux) and reading this, what should be copy/pasted are the characters between the (code)(end code) delimiters.

i installed cddao 1.2.3 with a link tutorial that is above, and brasero started copying, it seems very slow to me, but it works. The problem persists because brasero is unable to burn the image.

If you look at Brasero Extensions, you will see many problems: cdrdao version problem, cdda2wav cannot be find, cdrecord is a symlink pointing to another program, cannot find dvdauthor, mkisofs has the same problem, cannot find readcd, cannot find vcdimager.

This seems to me a major compilation problem.

Are you referring to updating cdrdao 1.2.2 to cdrdao 1.2.3? Beacause on my lucid with cdrdao 1.2.2 brasero can produce images of all cd/dvd media types but can not burn them, (been using cdrecord in a terminal for that).

After updating to cdrdao 1.2.3 I still couldn't burn with brasero, but also brasero would no longer produce bin cue's from audio cd's so reverted back to cdrdao 1.2.2 and it then made bin cue image files.

This issue is far from fixed.

I have made packages of brasero-2.31.2 using the sources from ftp.gnome.org,

However, with cdrdao_1.2.2 the plugin still complains that the version is too old. It is OK with cdrdao_1.2.3.
If I did not make mistakes, for me the problem is not solved upstream.

I had tried just cdrdao_1.2.3 which worsened things (see post 48) and reverted back to cdrdao_1.2.2.

I temporarily enabled system->administration->software sources->updates tab Proposed updates (Lucid updates)

And downloaded just brasero 2.30.1-0ubuntu2 and brasero-common 2.30.1-0ubuntu2

CD's burn OK haven't tried DVD's yet though.

This is what happens on my system:
- with brasero-2.30.0 and cdrdao-1.2.2 I cannot make cd-audio images and cannot copy cd-audio on the fly
- with brasero-2.30.0 and cdrdao-1.2.3 I can make cd-audio images and cannot copy cd-audio on the fly
- with brasero-2.31.2 and cdrdao-1.2.2 I cannot make cd-audio images and can copy cd-audio on the fly
- with brasero-2.31.2 and cdrdao-1.2.3 I can make cd-audio images and can copy cd-audio on the fly
So we need both packages upgraded to solve this bug.

Still having the problem with mainstream lucid (remark: I did the upgrade from karmic while still in beta 2, but since then kept the system up-to-date).
My last update: yesterday (2010-05-30)

The workaround proposed by daqron (post #22) succeeds for me. I'm using cdrdao v1.2.2 (the version that gets installed with lucid). The problem seems indeed to be coming from brasero (2.30.0), not from cdrdao (1.2.2).

Although the howto is very neat and clear, it's not quite for newbies...
Lucid is a LTS! So, I don't feel like installing things manually outside the official repository like suggested by several posts above, or even recommend it. Furthermore, this is even less for newbies and it could jeopardize the system's stability by introducing unmet(table) dependencies.

An effective fix would thus be greatly appreciated.

I installed Brasero 2.30.2 from your PPA and Cdrdao 1.2.3. On my 2 sytems (Lucid, 64Bit / Lucid 32Bit) amd installed Icedax too.
Testet: making/burning an Audio-CD with mp3-Songs, Data-CD with different Files, ISO-CD and 1:1 Copie of an Audio-Disk.
All works perfect. (Not testet to make DVD's)

They have been build without any of the debian patches used for the 1.2.2 version (but many of them were already merged upstream). They work well with cd-audio in my system.

I used this workaround on Lucid, which wraps icedax and pretends to be "cdda2wav 2.0.0" : create a /usr/local/bin/cdda2wav executable file with:

Surely those like Shuttleworth can't know about this bug? It is a scandal; Him preaching what a 'success' this release has been when such a fundamental piece of "inbuilt" functionality is being ignored in the state that it is. It would be unfortunate enough if this were just another release. But this is the LTS. This should be given more attention. Like others have said; How are we, as Ubuntu users, supposed to endorse and/or demonstrate a 'new' OS to a friend, colleague, or whatever, when we have to void such a fundamental piece of functionality ..... what excuse do we come up with when someone we are showing wants to test it?
What do we tell them, once they have installed, when they, the new user straight from windows, discovers that a simple 'copy CD' doesn't work?

For me the package in proposed (brasero_2.30.1-0ubuntu2) does not work.
I cannot make images of cd-audio and cannot copy cd-audio on the fly. I always get an error saying that all the necessary applications and libraries are not installed.
I can do both operations with the packages in my ppa (see comments #56, #60 and #63).

It actually installed the package icedax.

This time there is no suggested applications and libraries to install. Just a blank line.

So to me the bug is not resolved at all. Can you tell us Jaime Pereira how you managed to get it work properly after an update? This does not work for me.

Upstream developers have already stated in comment 4 of the relative bug (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=617222) that:
"it turns out that cdrdao 1.2.2 recognizes "cdrdao version" as an illegal command and since brasero expect a precise string for parsing version, and in the case of 1.2.2 it does not get it, it fails."
and that:
"The plugin associated with cdda2wav was designed to work with the cdda2wav coming from the cdrtools package. Up until now, it would refuse to work if it turned out cdda2wav was a symlink.... Now I turned off this mechanism just for cdda2wav plugin in next version which means that it should work with a symlink to icedax now".

So it seems that the kernel has nothing to do with this bug and we need updated versions of brasero and cdrdao to solve it.

Installing gnomebaker gives me the following error:

So that means for me that substituting a bug for system security is a no go situation.

I noticed a brasero update this morning.
I installed.

The attempt to copy a CD resulted in the following:

(note: I didn't think to write it down as it was happening, and a subsequent attempt in copy does not go through the whole process).

note 2: I am running Gnome, ; somehow kpackagekit managed to slip onto my system. Perhaps because I use kaffeine?

Why not make a silly dummy package with something like the fix in #68. Then brasero could depends on that. For me the cdda2wav provided by icedax works, but only when "fixed" like #68.

Isn't it a basic expectation that unskilled users can copy a cd? Why wasn't this a showstopper bug?

How can you change the status to "Fix released", if there is only an unofficial fix from a PPA?! Fix released means "done, closed, go along", but as long as there is no correct package in the official ubuntu sources, most people will have the problem.

Status for "brasero (Ubuntu)" should be "in progress" unless someone pushes the updated package and/or the patch into the official repositories.

I don't mean to be offensive to anyone, my aim is to be constructive, this is the preamble...I wanted to say that I personally have solved the problem taking cdrdao ver. 1.23 from a puppy linux forum and brutally copying into /usr/bin; now brasero doesn't complain anymore that the plugin is old, and I've been able to copy a data cd with no problem. BUT let me say: THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE! Don't get me wrong, but we can't have programmers that spend their precious time making a fancy cube rotate, AND THE DEFAULT BURNING APPLICATION DOESN'T COPY A CD! this bug (and there are many others duplicate) was opened in February! I am not a programmer, but I think that essential bugs like this MUST be solved in hours! You have to investigate WHY brasero complains, why it asks for the libraries? ok, but if giving it a new library solves the problem, then go for it! Tell Ubuntu maintainers to pull in this new cdrdao and everything works! Then you'll take your time to investigate, but in the meanwhile the newbie won't go back to windows because he can't copy a cd! You'll agree with me that bugs like this are frustrating, you go to your friend telling him to try this marvelous Linux that is ages forward his windows and when he tries to copy a cd he can't! Come on, it's not possible! Ubuntu is simple, it lets you do by default not tons of things, but they are essential things, at least these ones MUST be perfect.
p.s.: I still haven't found a solution for the other bug (from my point of view essential too), the one that blanked dvds are not recognized by brasero (but are by gnomebaker, for example).

Renzo's PPA fix works for me, but it still takes upwards of 45 minutes just to copy a cd. That's just nuts. Sound Juicer extracts a cd in 4 minutes. For me Brasero remains nearly unusable, even with the fix. I'd just a soon exact to .wav and burn the tracks as a new project. It isn't a 1:1 copy, but it doesn't take all day.

Hi!

Yesterday, we just had the problem with 2 laptop using Ubuntu Lucid, trying to copy an audio CD.

The first (Ubuntu i386) was asking about cdda2wav which was missing, and the second (Ubuntu amd64) reported an internal error and create an empty log.

After reading theses comments I tried 2 things ;
 - I installed the package icedax (#4)
 - I updated brasero (3 packages, including the runtime) from the "proposed" repository using 2.30.2-0ubuntu1 (i think it has just been pushed into "update" today)

With theses 2 actions, simple copy of an audio CD works (I didn't make any other test). Performing just one is not sufficient.

Burned CD audio are OK but there's still new problem :
 - info text are burned even if there's no one (and the burning process become longer)
 - progress bar doesn't work any more.

I hope it could be useful.

I just upgraded to Lucid and I get the same error message when trying to use 'Disc Copy':

"All required applications and libraries are not installed.
Please install the following manually and try again:."

This function worked fine in Karmic.

Also with other functions, Brasero tries to download new packages - fails and says:
"KPackageKit is missing"

I have both KPackageKit and cdrdao installed. I have tried uninstalling all three (including Brasero) and re-installing but get the same messages.

I know that this bug was reported as 'fixed' earlier, but it doesn't seem so to me. Any help would be appreciated.

 My Problem got resolved by the solutions posted in Bug # 115829 and #115271.

Brasero (Lucid - v2.31.2) is now working perfectly in every function I have tried - better than in Karmic!

The suggestion in # 115271 may add some functions - but the suggestion in Bug # 115829 (system update - Brasero uninstall and re-install using terminal) COMPLETELY solved my problem.

I get the error "please install the following libraries manually - libdvdcss.so.2" - twice when trying to burn DVD copies. Is this related to the issue discussed in this thread? I have manually updated these libraries and it makes no difference to the error and the application completely fails every time.

I am dismayed that such a catastrophic bug could slip through the cracks which really undermined the credability of Ubuntu.

Your problem is not related to this bug: you are trying to copy an encripted DVD, for which you need to install the 'libdvdcss2' package from the medibuntu repository.

I can confirm this issue, but I have slightly different results. After I installed cdda2wav, it just says an error has occured, and specifically it says an internal error has occured and I saved the log and this is all it said:

Session error : An internal error occurred (brasero_burn_record brasero-burn.c:2839)

So slightly different, but happens when making 1:1 copies.

I did what #112 suggested:

1. Run software update
2. Via terminal and apt-get removed brasero
3. Via terminal and apt-get installed brasero

Now brasero CD copy functionality is restored. Not sure if running it via terminal matters. Doing it via Synaptic/Ubuntu Software Center might have same result.

I'm not developer of brasero, but I can certify that this brasero-session.log was generated by brasero when I do this exactly this step:
1-Insert audio disk
2-Open brasero
3-Select disk copy "(create 1:1 copy of a CD/DVD)"
4-Select copy
5-"An error occurred, do you want to save log" (or some thing similar, I didn't remember exact message)
6-Installing a software that allow my customer to copy their audio disk.

I have to agree with most who commented here.

CD/DVD burning is an essential piece in the OS. It's pretty embarrassing to have buggy burners, and puts off a lot of people and justifies a lot others to go back to Windows.

Huh? Who says that burning with Brasero is essential - lol... I had enough trouble with it and simply stuck to GnomeBaker. It's doing it's job.

At least we can burn without major hiccups... In my case, ever since I upgraded to 10.4, I've had an ocean of issues, from freezing laptop, to crashes into low graphics mode, and printing issues over LAN...

It's just that I can't afford to switch back to Windows (although I have a genuine copy) since I do quite a bit of LAMP development. Anyway, none of these are relevant but the bottom line is that after the 2008 releases, Ubuntu seems to be cross-wired.

I'll wait the next three months as I'm finishing some work and then consider fixing bugs myself.

In the mean time, I'm hoping for the best.

If this isn't fixed (I have no hardware with burning capability anymore so can't test if the original bug actually is fixed or not) Then this is a real goof for Ubuntu. This bug was initially posted while Lucid was still in alpha (Where maverick is now) IMHO this should have received attention before Lucid was released. As it is, it looks as if Maverick will be released with the same problem. In which case I'm going to find it really difficult to be recommending Ubuntu to anyone, when such basic, expected functionality remains unfixed for so long.

I hate to sound ungrateful for all the great work done here, and as I don't have the experience or skills to be fixing this myself, I just have to hope that somebody recognises that this has greater than medium importance for most users, and at least gets it assigned and fixed before Maverick release.

The issue isn't about being able to burn with alternative software. The default installation (which uses brasero) should work. If brasero can't be made to behave, then it should be dropped for something which can.

I totally agree with Will, AT LEAST default programs should work flawlessly out of the box...always with maximum respect with all the developers, but, please, solve this bug! And don't answer saying that if you manually add that repo or upgrade that library, then MAYBE it works! The "normal" user should be able to copy a cd without beating his head on the corners! How can be released a 10.04.1 version, and still carry on with this bug? And installing Gnomebaker is not an answer, Ubuntu pretends (rightly) to do n. basic things out of the box with default applications, then it MUST be able to do them! I wonder....what would we say if this happened to windows?

Well. To me, the importance of this bug has nothing to do with the "normal" user.
The normal user, to me, has already decided to use Ubuntu, and despite the occasional problem, such as this one, Ubuntu far surpasses the usefulness of the alternatives, with the exception of maybe macOS.

The real problem is when us normal users manage to convince a new person to try it out, based on our recommendations.

Then they find out that a integrated component of the operating system (brasero) is broken in the Long term service release, and has been broken for months.

Note that the version requirement for cdrdao is artificial, and based on a wrong assumption in the *version check itself*. The referenced upstream commit only requires cdrdao version 1.2.0 or later, which is trivially satisfied by every version of cdrdao in use, but the 'cdrdao version' command used to *check* the version number wasn't introduced until 1.2.3.

Given that the new upstream version of cdrdao includes deep changes to its CD drivers, I don't think a freeze exception for that package is advisable; I think the version check in brasero should just be fixed (i.e., disabled).

I fixed this problem on my system by manually installing the newest version of cdrdao. It can be downloaded from here http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/ For those of you unfamiliar with the installation of tarballs. Open the containing folder. Right click the file and select extract here. Open terminal and cd to location. For me this was the default firefox location of # cd Downloads/cdrdao-1.2.3/
type ./configure
after the program is congigured
type make
after the makefile is ready type
sudo make install
enter your password. Once this is done you may need to restart brasero if it's open. This completely fixed the issues on my system and hopefully it helps at least a few of you.

I should also add that if you are only receiving an error for toc2cue you may be able to satisfy this through synaptic by adding the cuetools package. I believe that should satisfy that dependency. After the configure command from my previous post you may want to be sure that those particular lines (toc2cue and cue2toc) have a yes next to them as they are needed for the 1 to 1 copy. If they have a no beside them instead you will need to add some packages to change the output to yes. If you have no idea what I'm talking about you should be able to figure it out after the ./configure command from my previous post.

Confirmation:
Trying to copy an Audio CD, Brasero demands
manual installation of the following packages:

cdrdao (mentioned 2 times)
toc2cue

Workaround:
Installed cdda2wav via apt-get.
Installed cdda2wav, now titled icedax, via apt-get.
Installed cue2toc instead of toc2cue. (Maybe a typo or unused:
toc2cue is not found via package search, cue2toc however is.)

Result: No error messages, Audio CD copy works.
Sorry if this has been mentioned before. It's hard to keep track of all of these comments.
Manually reinstalling Brasero did not work for me.

This is obviously not impossible to fix as it works nicely in Fedora 13. Also cdrdao comes preinstalled there which I find rather logical considering that it is required for this to work. I mean - why on earth does the package rhythmbox-plugin-cdrecorder not depend on cdrdao for an instance? What is the point of integrating a copy audio CD option into rhythmbox when the packages required for it to work need not be installed?

While we're on this - note that with cdrdao not installed brasero just **crashes** whenever you try to copy an audio CD - there is no window complaining about a missing plugin or anything (that only appears when cdrdao package is already installed). Brasero should either depend on cdrdao or else this behaviour needs to be fixed as well.

I have located the problem. As mentioned, cdrdao version is not detected properly. This is because brasero's detection is based on analysis of the first line of output that cdrdao generally provides, which has the following format:

Cdrdao version %d.%d.%d - (C) Andreas Mueller <email address hidden>

Now the problem is that when you call cdrdao in ubuntu what you actually get is:

ERROR: Failed to load plugin /usr/lib/ao/plugins-4/libesd.so => dlopen() failed
Cdrdao version 1.2.3 - (C) Andreas Mueller <email address hidden>

The easy solution therefore is to install package libesd0.

Until a more general fix is devised I propose the following:

Make cdrdao depend on libesd0.
Make brasero depend on cdrdao.

libao merely Suggests: libesd0. It is built with esd support (build-depends on libesd0-dev). But I think it is supposed to survive even without finding libesd.so. Really, brasero's detection based on parsing console output needs to be fixed, or as Steve said long time ago, disabled.

Also had this same problem earlier this evening trying to copy an audio CD using the built-in option of right clicking audio cd icon on the desktop and clicking the copy disc option. This is on a completely vanilla fresh Lucid install with all updates. Only ever gets used for web browsing, no customized packages or whatever.

Tried Gnomebaker as an alternative (need something simple for non technical user, cmd line won't do), but that immediately ejected the blank disc I put in as a destination media after copying the source, and gave an error. But that's another story...

At the top of this bug report, it now says "Declined for Lucid." Does this mean that this bug won't be fixed in Lucid? I sincerely hope I've misunderstood the information at the top of the bug report.

Still doesn't work for me on amd64 Lucid. Right click audio CD on desktop and select the copy cd option, and get the same error as included in the brasero-session.log output already attached to this bug report. Also happens trying to copy from Brasero directly.

Trying to install the packages posted in the workaround gives the following output:

It's bugs like this, and Ubuntu's lack of response to them, that makes it hard for me to recommend Linux to someone where I won't be monitoring their computer constantly.

If a user can pop in a CD and right-click on it and has the option to "Copy CD", the expect it to work when they select it. It's little, simple usability things like this that help to hold the Linux desktop back and makes me question how aware Ubuntu really is of the desktop they promote.

Sure, the bug might be upstream and not with Ubuntu, but if Ubuntu really cared about the desktop they'd say, "Wait a minute, this really disrupts the desktop experience for users," and they'd step in and fix it and release the fix for all supported Ubuntu versions.

I recently re-installed Ubuntu 10.10 as I had corrupted my Couch DB installation (32 bit). This now works (for syncing with Ubuntu One). As one collateral damage, Brasero, which was working OK before, after distro upgrade from 10.04, now issues the well-known error message (if started from Rhythmbox) and just exits (if started via Applications / .. or via context menu, i.e., right click on the desktop). I now use GnombBaker instead of Brasero, and this works. But of course such things are annoying and periodically lessen my enthusiasm for Ubuntu, and my motivation to recommend it as a serious alternative to Windows or Mac OS.

SRU Request:

Impact: Brasero cannot copy an audio CD in Lucid and Maverick because of an incorrectly detected cdrdao binary.

Brasero will try and determine if the cdrdao binary is the required version by executing it and parsing the banner. Because of libao in Lucid and Maverick, the cdrdao binary returns a warning before the header, resulting in brasero thinking the binary is too old.

This has been addressed for Lucid and Maverick by disabling the version check for the cdrdao binary. This is really unneeded as we know which version of cdrdao is in the archive. See attached debdiff.

The Maverick SRU also contains a minimal fix for bug #718969.

How to test cdrdao detection:
1- Install cdrdao (apt-get install cdrdao)
2- Launch brasero, and make sure the cdrdao plugin is enables successfully.

How to test packagekit backend (bug #718969, Maverick only):
1- Uninstall cdrdao (dpkg -P cdrdao)
2- Launch brasero with an audio cd in the drive. Try and copy the audio cd.
3- Instead of crashing, brasero should launch packagekit (well, actually session-installer) and install cdrdao

Tested on a pretty clean Maverick install:
With 2.32.0-ubuntu2.1 brasero would just abort after clicking on "Create Image".
With 2.32.0-ubuntu2.2 from maverick-proposed, it now ask kindly to install "cdrdao", afterwards it starts to read the CD as it should. Did not have the patience to see if burning the image actually works, but it looks promising.

Thanks a lot Marc Deslauriers for taking this seriously! One would think the RIAA was paying Canonical to not work on this :P

Tested successfully on 10.04.2:
With old 2.30.2-0ubuntu1: Whether cdrdao is installed or not, I get "An internal error occured" with "Unsupported type of task operation" in the saved log.
With new 2.30.2-0ubuntu1.1: Without cdrdao it asks me to install cdrdao and toc2cue, however toc2cue is not available in the archive. After installing cdrdao and restarting brasero, it works fine and reads the CD.

On June 16, 2010 I "fixed" the bug on my Linux systems by means of Renzo's PPA.

Yesterday, the problem appeared again on a Maverick fresh installation. So I should say that (at least) on one of my Linux box I have the problem again. The Lucid boxes are OK.

I can confirm that this is still an issue in Maverick. However, I have been able to get Brasero to work burning an Audio CD (both stand alone and from Rhythmbox (which is better for novice users).

Here's how I fixed the issue on my system:

Install the following via Synaptic:

cuetools (1.3.1-9)
flac (1.2.1-3)
mp3info (0.8.5a-1)
python-brasero (2.30.0-1ubuntu5.1)

after copying a .wav file to a CD (as a data element, not as part of an audio disk). I'm running 11.10 and as far as I know all my maintenance is current. now that I think about it, I've have problems copying DVD video and audio to my optical media since my migration up from 11.

I'm running on a ThinkPad T43 with 2 gig of RAM and an aftermarket DVDRW

I have the logs and I can get this to fail at will if you need some more to look at. thanks in advance for all your help.
