Bug Description

Binary package hint: grub2

Update manager attempted to update my system but hung with questions for grub. When I restarted my computer the version.16 failed to start and the system reverted back to the shell. I was able to do an 'ctrl' 'alt' 'delete' and chose the older.14 and got my computer started up. Went to update manager to try rerunning updates but got an error message stating that I must "manually" run 'sudo dpkg--configure-a'. I am new to linux and do not know how to perform these steps properly.

I'm not sure what it is either or even how it happened. Anyhow, I got
around it somehow. If you run Ubuntu you should use version 10.04 (which
is the latest version).

Have fun, Ubuntu is very cool!

Yep! I really like it. Had the last 'version' and just installed 10.04.
Building a new PC with only Linux. Haven't been back to update mgr. yet to
look. Thanks for answer. Keep in touch.

hank, Do you confirmed that:

I'll try to be a little more clear. Installed Ubuntu last year inside Vista machine. Got rid of it and bought new mach w/7. Installed 10.04 Monday on it inside Win7. Next day dowloaded ALL updates. Installed till grub and just stopped. Then window came up install without grub: yes or no. Tried with and still no action. So, restarted on Ubuntu and it finished install w/out grub. Works ok. So, I ran updated manager again and it said no updates at this time. " You are up to date." Not frustrated! Oh, I dont understand the terminal, manual load thingy. I tried command, sudo dpkg -- configure-a whatever. No such command. I have lots computor experience but I'm no programmer or developer. It' working for now so I can get familiar with all this when I get my Linux only machine built. I am experienced w/ repair and building. Thanks.

For reports happening during the dist-upgrade, the occurrence could be
explained by having the pre-upgrade version of the debconf frontend still
running. I don't see how this would account for bug reports "shortly after"
a dist-upgrade. Does this suggest any explanations to you?

Bonjour,

With Ubuntu 11.4 I did not have this problem. But before 11.4, when the "update-manager" process was run and did install a new kernel, all was fine at first but after the installation of the new kernel I have to reboot and then my Ubuntu was lost ! I only see Windows XP.

N.B.: I haved installed Ubuntu with WUBI.
