lost X connection during conffile merge

Bug Description

Binary package hint: grub2

Upgrade just hanged, so I rebooted from another terminal, then it did not continue on boot, but i was able to switch to a terminal and did a apt-get something something (looks like it built all the pacages again), and then i did a update and install.. and was able to reach the desktop

On Dell Inspiron 1318. Upgrade itself went fine but post upgrade every time I login I see this crash report.

I had the same problem. It maybe caused by the proprietary driver being unloaded and the dpkg losing it X connection. On reboot I had to run X in low graphics mode and then ran: sudo dpkg --configure -a
