Bug Description

The machine complains that it has not been updated (set to every day automatic). When you force a manual update this is what you get. As far as I can tell, they don't exist. This is a persistant issue.

If this isn't the place sorry, was on UNIX in the late 80's.

This happens when you enable all of your repositories in the software sources list. This needs to be updated so that all repositories available can be actually utilized.

The problem seems to be due to the fact that the standard ubuntu repositories are enabled in the "Software Sources". Now those are not supposed to be enabled, since the dell-mini has its own repositories. To fix this:

1. Go to System -> Administration -> Software Sources
2. Disable all the checkboxes in the Ubuntu Software tab panel.

This should fix it. The mini should come with all those disabled by default, but this would need to be verified.

Download full text (3.1 KiB)

That does clear it. I am presuming that this will not prevent makor updates
;like we got in the last week.

FYI, Skype now recognizes 'ipla' as '386'architecture, and therefore
installs w/o repackaging.

No, all updates are not affected. You can check in the "Third Party" tab in Software sources and you will see the list of custom repos for the mini (the main url being:

http://dell-mini.archive.canonical.com

One question: did you receive your mini with the regular Ubuntu repos enabled (the one in the "Ubuntu software" tab)?

As for Skype (and all general i386 packages), the fix is a consequence of bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/dell-mini/+bug/297018

Keep in mind that i386 packages installed this way without repackaging will not be visible through apt nor Synaptics so you won't be able to uninstall it. Thus, repackaging is still recommended:

Sorry for going out of topic. I thought this would have been a useful reminder...

You need to repackage the same deb for lpia, install it and then remove it using apt or Synaptics.

By the way, I suggest the script if you need to repackage, in ubuntuforums (there is also a deb package). It's very convenient and eventually it will convert a bunch of i386 debs in the same folder.
