8086:4227 iwl3945 resets wireless connection frequently

Hi,

the iwl3945 driver reset the wireless connection quite frequently while downloading (1-3 times a minute) and then reconnects.
Using:

Linux lapi 3.0.0-12-generic #20-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 7 14:56:25 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I got these errors after updating to 11.10. Sound is also flaky. Quite difficult do explain, but sound does play not as clear as usually. I have tested my notebook with knoppix and did not had any of these effects (wireless, wlan). Sound does not give any erros messages.

Peter, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. From the way you wrote the Bug Description, it suggested this worked in a prior release. Is this true?

Yeah, true. Still after applying current updates, this has not changed. I think it stared with the last mayer upgrade. Former releases did not had this problem.
The hardware still frequently resets and wlan connection gets lost, while using it and then reconnects to the AP.

I think it was introduced with the update from 2.6 to 3.0, but seems to be gone with 12.04 and kernel version 3.2 now.

Peter, if you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

This bug is also present on Ubuntu 12.04, see bug 1009878. I think this answers the question for "latest upstream kernel".

Same problem here, even though the manifestation was much worse. Never had this problem with 11.04 or 11.10.
It is my impression that 12.04 behaved correctly initially though.

To me bug 1009878 sounds different. In that case, the driver stops working altogether.
Here it simply resets itself.

It could be related to rekeying; see these very recent messages on the kernel list:

With the following configuration, I get the "stuck queue" less frequently and I can reach high transfer rates (whereas before I was limited to ~50Kbyte/s). Network-manager leads to worse results (more log messages, lower rates).
