Bug Description

About once a day, Wifi stops working for me. The indicator still tells that I'm connected, but all connections fail. When I look at the syslog, I always see this error at the time of the failure:

Jun 7 10:07:50 darkly kernel: [69198.866204] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: Queue 11 stuck for 2000 ms.
Jun 7 10:07:50 darkly kernel: [69198.866212] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: Current read_ptr 35 write_ptr 186
Jun 7 10:07:50 darkly kernel: [69198.866216] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: On demand firmware reload
Jun 7 10:07:50 darkly kernel: [69198.866736] ieee80211 phy0: Hardware restart was requested
Jun 7 10:07:50 darkly kernel: [69198.866922] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: L1 Enabled; Disabling L0S
Jun 7 10:07:50 darkly kernel: [69198.873824] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: Radio type=0x0-0x3-0x1

Reconnecting or disabling and enabling wireless does not repair my connection. I have to reboot in order to use my Wifi again.

This is with precise on a Lenovo T410s, I'm pretty sure that this bug was not present in oneiric.

Andreas Schildbach, thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

Did not find a build for kernel 3.4.3 unfortunately.

Did not find a way to add tag "kernel-bug-exists-upstream".

One testimonial here. Got new router recently (TPlink tl-wr1043nd), which worked excellently with my Ultimate-N 6300 wifi card in my HP Elitebook 8540w. I was using 802.11n and rocking good speeds etc. Yesterday I got home after using the network for around 5 weeks non-stop without issue and I could not maintain a connection for more than a few seconds, getting the "Queue 11 stuck at 2000ms" and then having the wifi completely inop until unload/reload module... at which point it would work again for a few seconds and crap out again.

After fooling around, rebooting etc... I rebooted the router. Everything was back to normal. Works awesome again, 802.11n speeds etc. To clarify as well, every other computer in my house (which run a mix of OS's) were working fine before I rebooted it. GF was streaming hulu etc with no issues.

I'm not sure what this tell us... but there definitely is some interplay with the router with this issue. Let me know if more information on my setup would be useful.

The Wireless AP is an AVM FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7390 running FRITZ!OS 05.22.

My various Android devices connected to the same AP do not appear to have this problem.

Distance: about 5m
Obstructions: none, apart from myself

I have no other AP to test with.

I'd say yes, this is a regression. Cannot remember to have these problems with previous Ubuntu versions.

I was traveling this week and had to connect to a lot of foreign wireless networks. Almost all of them were extremely unstable. Usually they stop working immediately after connecting, and sometimes unloading/reloading the module will allow it to work for a while before it happens again. It appears my home wireless access point is the exception in stability.

I updated to the 3.2.0-29-generic kernel (from -27) but saw no change.

I tried installing linux-backports-modules-cw-29, no improvement. Actually after more sustained use it seemed worse with compat-wireless installed, and I experienced a hard system crash at one point.

I'm not sure I want to go down the ndiswrapper rabbit hole... that seems counterproductive. I will try it if requested and if it might make my machine more useful.

This is a terrible bug... my computer is almost useless. Any workarounds would be greatly appreciated

I also tried using wd_disable=1, but this offered no improvement. It also seemed like after using this option the failure became unrecoverable without a reboot. Currently when it stops working I can reload the module to get it back, but with wd_disable it seemed I had to reboot. Time before failure was not extended.
