I've read before of that bug - one had an opinion - it is rarely reproduced bug due to the composition of ATI card and Intel wireless card
I not use network manager, I use wicd and has iwl3945 option:
alias wlan0 iwl3945
options iwl3945 disable_hw_scan=1
