If a queue actually got auto-created for your printer, couls you attach the queue's PPD file from /etc/cups/ppd/ here?

Please

- Remove the .snap of HPLIP, it is experimental

- Remove any HPLIP version installed directly from HP

- Re-install Ubuntu's HPLIP via the command:

  sudo apt install --reinstall printer-driver-hpcups printer-driver-postscript-hp libsane-hpaio hplip-gui hplip hplip-data libhpmud0

Please post the output of this command here.

- Remove your current print queues with the commands:

  lpadmin -x DeskJet_3630
  lpadmin -x HP_DeskJet_3630_series

- Unplug the printer from USB and re-plug it. Does a new print queue get created ("lpstat -v" should show it)? Can you print using this queue?

- Could you create a driverless print queue (this queue does not use HPLIP but common, manufacturer-independent communication protocols of the printer)? Use the command

  lpadmin -p DJ3630 -E -v ipp://HP%20DeskJet%203630%20series%20%5B9B20BB%5D._ipp._tcp.local/ -m everywhere

Can you print with this print queue?

Stefano, thanks for the Mate forum link, I have tried to make up the sum of the tips to help users get HPLIP working again.

So anyone here, please try to clean up any HPLIP mess on your system using the following steps:

1. Remove HPLIP deb-packages

sudo dpkg -P --force-depends hplip hplip-data hplip-doc hplip-gui \
libsane-hpaio printer-driver-hpcups printer-driver-hpijs printer-driver-postscript-hp \
hpijs-ppds libhpmud0

2. Remove upstream-installed HPLIP using HPLIP binary uninstaller

wget https://nchc.dl.sourceforge.net/project/hplip/hplip/3.20.3/hplip-3.20.3.run
sh hplip-3.20.3.run --noexec
cd hplip-3.20.3
sudo python3 ./uninstall.py
sudo rm -rf /usr/share/hplip/

3. Reinstall deb-packages with:

sudo apt install -f hplip-gui printer-driver-hpcups printer-driver-postscript-hp libsane-hpaio

Then try to create a print queue with hp-setup and, if needed load the proprietary plugin with hp-plugin. Also printer setup with GNOME Control Center or system-config-printer should work again.

DO NOT install printer-driver-hpijs and hpijs-ppds. These packages are deprecated and not maintained any more, and they also have no benefit compared to printer-driver-hpcups.

Ubuntu 20.04 needs
- either the HPLIP version 3.20.3+dfsg0-2 packages from the Ubuntu repositories
- or HPLIP version 3.20.5 (or higher) from the HPLIP pages

Version 3.20.3 from the HPLIP pages does not work.

I managed to get my printer back to work in 20.04 by installing hplip from ubuntu repo (3.20.3+dfsg0-2), and then following this hint to install the hp-plugin:

https://askubuntu.com/a/1248018

I had to type "cont" and press return after the depicted command to start the process.

I have a HP Color Laser Jet PRO MFP M281fdw. After upgrading from Ubuntu 18.04 LTS to 20.04 LTS the printer is not responding, scanning cannot start. I have tried with HPLIP ver.3.20.5 from HP. The installation stops after this section

I believe this bug affects me, also, but I have a different printer, and I get a different message. I have posted my issue here:

It might be that the same bug affected me after upgrading to 20.04 with another printer: https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/690767

I also recently tried hplip 3.20.6 for a freshly installed xubuntu, but it did not help. (the result of hp-check brought the same result as https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/690767 (#5). I was forced to downgrade the system again because it is essential to keep the printer functional.

I have similar problems. See: https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/692399

Running the latest version of Kubuntu and just tried to install brand new HP think tank 551 MFP.

Does involve similar warnings from print doctor saying it cannot access some files.

Is this entire issue due to a problem with folder permissions preventing an application or driver from accessing needed folders or files?

Please respond.

Did confirm the print doctor warning.

Some of the files it is trying to access are in fact locked.

Do not know why or if this makes any difference for actually using the printer or scanner.

It worked nicely , and began to fail maybe one month ago (near february / march 2021)

I guess some upgrade messed-up the printers.
