Bug Description

Binary package hint: indicator-appmenu

I'm seeing a gap between "Search" and "Documents" when starting Gedit, after unfocusing and refocusing, the "Tools" menu appears (which isn't there in the original menu bar) - see screenshot. I don't see a gap in a GNOME session.

I cant reproduce this as 'Tools' never appear in my case but that might be because I have appmenu-gtk 0.0.8 in Lucid.

You need 0.0.9 to see the tools menu. I can't reproduce the gap anymore with this version.

You mean appmenu-gtk 0.0.9? Actually I _don't_ want to see the Tools menu as I don't have one in the original menu bar. Here are the versions I'm currently using (should be up-to-date):

indicator-appmenu:
  Installed: 0.0.7-0ubuntu2
appmenu-gtk:
  Installed: 0.0.9-0ubuntu3
bamfdaemon:
  Installed: 0.2.32-0ubuntu1
libdbusmenu-gtk1:
  Installed: 0.3.3-0ubuntu1
unity:
  Installed: 0.2.12-0ubuntu2

do you still get the issue using appmenu-gtk 0.1.0?

Yes, I'm still seeing the behavior in gedit ("Tools"), rhythmbox ("Tools"), and gnome-terminal ("Tabs").

FWIW: the menu dumps are the same whether I see the gap or the Tools/Tabs menu.

I cannot reproduce this. My setup is using a german locale here. The apps tested with are: gnome-terminal, gedit, evolution, xchat, empathy, gwibber. appmenu-gtk installed here is 0.0.9-0ubuntu1~ppa3+r54+201007061606. I just don't see any gap.

The issue here is, that there's a gap instead of a menu that's not supposed to be there in the first place.

*) Example gedit:

I don't have a plug-in enabled that causes the "Tools" menu to show up in the original menu bar. What I'm seeing when starting gedit: the "Tools" menu is there for the blink of an eye and then transforms into the (expandable, but empty) gap. That gap transforms back to a "Tools" menu, once I re-focus or unminimize gedit.

If I enable a plug-in that causes the "Tools" menu to show up (eg. the color picker), everything's fine. Not sure how to activate the "Tools" menu in rhythmbox but I guess it would work fine too.

*) Example gnome-terminal:

The "Tabs" menu is only supposed to show up if there's more than one tab open - in that case everything's fine, but upon start there's only one tab open, so the "Tabs" menu shouldn't be there. What I'm seeing instead is the same as with gedit, just that the expandable gap/menu isn't empty (see screenshot).

Using appmenu-gtk 0.1.1-0ubuntu1 (maverick) + UNE.

My Maverick installation is up-to-date, and I'm still seeing what I described in #12:

* GNOME: no gap (never saw one), but after re-focusing or unminimizing, the additional (empty) menu shows up.

* UNE: gap upon application start (see screenshot in #12), and after re-focusing or unminimizing, the additional menu shows up.

I no longer see a gap using the attached branch. Unfortunately the Tools menus (if enabled) of gedit and rhythmbox don't contain any items, but that's another issue I guess.
