launcher icons first appear as white upon login

When I login to the "Ubuntu Netbook Edition" session in maverick I first see a white screen (bug #601088), then the launcher and panel appear, but the launcher icons are all white and folded. takes a couple of seconds before the correct icons fill in.

We've discussed an "entry experience", but I don't have a view on what
it should be. I think entering from the top is useful as it draws
attention to the BFB as the "source", it's where we want people to think
of going when the launcher is in autohide mode as that's where they'll
get it back.

Icons are loaded async, hence the discrepancy on startup. Gord was discussing being a bit more clever about when to show the icons (to make sure we never show empty icons).

In addition to this, we've still not had a chance to discuss if we can at least blitz all the icons we need at startup into a single file for quick loading (and also not discussed if it would actually make a startup difference for Unity :).

Neil, can you keep me posted as you discover constraints and workarounds for loading Launcher resources so we can make the session startup experience perfect? Do you have a rough idea of what will be slow so Christian and I can take a first crack at smoothing this out?
