Starts with Kernel update to 32-16. Occurs with both the ubuntu guest additions and with the guest additions compiled from the Virtual Box 3.1.4 host package.

Note (related?) that xorg does not recognize the monitor with the guest additions from the host package, but does with the ubuntu supplied guest additions.

The mouse integration problem is perhaps off-topic here, but there's a fix for it at http://www.virtualbox.org/changeset/27248. You can edit the file /usr/src/vboxvideo-3.1.4 as noted and recompile with sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup. You also need to define the mouse in /etc/init.d/xorg.conf:

Section "InputDevice"
 Identifier "VBoxMouse"
 Driver "vboxmouse"
 Option "CorePointer"
EndSection

However, it doesn't stop this particular bug from happening.

I have upgraded my VirtualBox app to 3.1.6 and run aptitude update and safe-upgrade. I am now able to view the Ubuntu Guest OS at full screen, but the Kernel Oops message is still appearing.

You may need to upgrade your kernel. Your version of Ubuntu is also pretty darn old.

I did a fresh install of 10.4 yesterday, ran updates, and installed the
guest additions stuff when I got the kernel problems... It also refuses to
run anything but low graphics mode... Xubuntu 10.4

This bug has stopped biting me. I have tested on separate hardware and it has been solved on both.

Step 1. Update VirtualBox to version 3.1.6
Step 2. Boot into Ubuntu, clicking through any "low graphics mode" warnings
Step 3. Install VBox guest additions (requires dkms)
Step 4. aptitude update && aptitude safe-upgrade -y (this should bring in new kernel headers and such)
Step 5. Reboot
Step 6. Profit

Just to update the bug-report data sent:

(1) Upgraded to virtualbox 3.1.6, and able to run full screen / resize screen (had problem and was limited to a "lowgraphics option" (?) in 3.1.4 w/o full screen, and no re-sizing)

(2) still get error report, but no experienced "real" crash of sysyem in v-box (not yet ...)

I also faced this issue when using VirtualBox v 3.1.4, after an upgrade to VirtualBox 3.1.6. I am able to move to fullscreen, but I still see that Kernel message saying "Your system might get unstable........"

Had this issue with Virtualbox v 3.1.4 running on Ubuntu Karmic host just after migration of client from Ubuntu Karmic to Lucid and reinstall of guest additions. I also lost mouse integration and seamless mode and switched to low graphics. Upgrade of VirtualBox to v3.1.6 and reinstall of guest additions for 3.1.6 solves the mouse integration and seamless mode, but I'm still in low graphics and have the crash message

@Bernard : if you say OK and let the VM start in low graphics mode, what does

Well, here is the output of uname -a:

But when I boot this morning, I didn't had the crash and low graphics messages anymore (did something change?). Instead, I have following message:

"Could not apply the stored configuration for monitor"
Ubuntu boots and my virtual machine ends up with a resolution of 1024x653

My Xorg.0.log shows following messages:

So, I guess this is just a configuration issue. I think the crash problem is gone, but I don't really understand what made it disappear...
