Bug Description

Hey,

As I told you on IRC, this string can be problematic because of its shape :

A search is currently active. Would you like to clear the current search and make this %s in "%s"?

The first %s should be statically turned into the "transaction" word. This is clearer for translators and avoids wrong translations on the "this" word.

Cordially, SD.

Yes, I see what you mean. It seems nice to have it be able to more specifically refer to it as a transfer instead of a transaction if that is the case, but I can see where this is a translation problem. I guess I could split up the two sentences and then have a second sentence for each case.

Do you think there is any value in having it say "transfer" if it is a transfer?

Well, I don't know if the case "transfer" would be useful or not. It's quite
obvious, I think, that a transfer is a particular case of a transaction. But
for instance if later you implement an account merge, you could want to say
"The search will be cancelled by this account merge".

Going through the bugs and saw this again. It seems like maybe I can use string formatting techniques to make this more obvious. I'll split the two sentences apart and make the second one:

    "Would you like to clear the current search and make this %(transaction)s in "%(account_name)s?" % {"transaction": actionStr, "account_name": accountName}

That way the arguments have names. The only problem is that I think if translators don't understand this and translate the keys in parenthesis it will break. Is this paradigm well understood by translators?

You could use a translator comment to say "First %s stands for a transaction / Second %s stands for an account name".

Any for the %s you need to make sure that the word you use (if you reuse this string as is) will always have the same genre in every language, sounds hard :D

Okay, fixed in trunk to statically use "transaction", I think this is cleaner. The translation template has been updated as well! Thanks for the report and for helping wxBanker to be better translated!
