Bug Description

Binary package hint: gfxboot-theme-ubuntu

When using the graphical installer of Hardy beta, the screensaver kicks in when it's halfway installing all the packages. If you didn't notice this and look back at the screen you might think that the installer had crashed because the screen is black.
Probably a screensaver is not a good thing during installation procedures.

I saw this on a P4 2.66 Ghz so this does not happen because the machine is too old or slow.

Cheers,

There have been multiple reports of this. It's weird, though, since we do try to disable the screen saver ...

This is still happening with both the Intrepid and Jaunty installers (Jaunty as of Alpha 6).

Perhaps this isn't the screensaver at all, but DPMS shutting off the display? I guess it would be OK to disable that these days. Colin, what are your thoughts?

I had thought gnome-screensaver would control DPMS too though?
That, and/or is the timeout not sufficient for the default time of poking?
Perhaps it would be best to use --inhibit instead of --poke since it just
needs to be called (and killed) once.

Still present in Ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric)... Not sure what is causing the bug.

screen actually seems freezed, but going to a tty and killing gnome-screensaver unfreezes the installer.
