At least on Windows and Linux you need a system with OpenGL3 and GLSL1.30 support. I have been told Macs work in every situation, but maybe you can update your graphics drivers.

I can’t find the source code. Can you tell me how to do it? Or is there someone here in the UK that can help me with the source code. I’ve done a small amount of coding and I don’t mind having a go.

Hi Alexander,

If I can find someone to help me with the source code, what comments should I add between lines 1865 and 1872 in Planet.cpp?

I would like to use Stellarium 0.14 on a 2014 MacBook Pro/OSX 10.11 as my planetarium software in a 5m mobile dome. Will you be able to fix this bug in the next update of 14? If you can, when is this likely to come out?

Thanks,

Melanie

OK, we have a quick solution for you, but can you check versions 0.12.4 and
0.13.3 also?

I can reproduce on my MacBook Air mini.

The root of the problem seems to come from the ringS texture used only if the planet has a ring in the planet shader. Since this is executed in the GPU, we have to assume the block can be executed even when the condition is false. I will try to find a simple fix for that.

Thank you. If there’s any more testing you need, please ask, I’m happy to help if I can.

This is weird. On my machine I can make it work by setting ringS sampler to 1 before rendering the ring:

    GL(ringPlanetShaderProgram->setUniformValue(ringPlanetShaderVars.ringS, 1));

I don't understand why, since the initial value of 2 also point to a valid texture.
I actually think this might be a different bug.

Maybe we have a conflict between various textures?

On my side, it looks like an opengl driver issue, since the application
crashes. I don't see any problem with the textures, but I guess the
shader using texture access inside a conditional block is not a very
good idea. We should probably not use the same shader for the planet
and the ring, or at least make it work without conditionals.

If you want I can apply the quick fix I mentioned (binding the ringS
samper to the ring texure before rendering the ring). It seems to work
on my mac book air, though I am not sure about other machines.

It works on my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.11.3). Ringed planets are now visible when zoomed in and using spheric mirror distortion. Thank you very much for fixing this.
