Bug Description
I'm using Ubuntu quantal (development branch), since the new 3.5 kernel coming, I can't boot I don't know where is the problem, kernel or ati module, but with 3.4 kernel there is no problem booting the Ubuntu.
When choose the 3.5 kernel from grub menu and start loading, after 10-15 seconds, just freeze, and can't do anything. I tried and mainline kernel from kernel-ppa/mainline but no change, still can't boot.
A Ubuntu kernel version bisect revealed that 3.4.0-5.11 works and the first problematic kernel is 3.5.0-1.1 .
WORKAROUND: 1. edit grub command line to add 'nomodeset' and boot.
2. Then add 'nomodeset' in GRUB2's kernel command line (using GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX in /etc/default/grub) and run 'sudo update-grub'
3. Add the following to /etc/rc.d/rc.local:
modprobe -r radeon
modprobe -r drm
modprobe radeon modeset=1
4. Remove ~/.Xauthority
5. Reboot
WORKAROUND: Use kernel parameter:
nomodeset
However, with nomodeset, 3D don't work correctly, cant use normal unity session, unity 2D session works but with artifacts.

tolostoi, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please provide the information following https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/DebuggingKe rnelBoot ? As well, if you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/KernelMainl ineBuilds . Please do not test the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs- upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs- upstream- testing' text. As well, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested.
If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel- fixed-upstream' .
If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel- bug-exists- upstream' .
If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel- unable- to-test- upstream' , and comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it.
Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.
