Bug Description

I used Xpad in Mint 13 and all was well. I installed Mint 17 (complete wipeout and install), installed and launched Xpad, and added 'workspace switcher' to the panel. That was before yesterday so there have since been reboots. When I create an Xpad sticky note it shows on the desktop and panel as it should, but not in the 'workspace switcher'. No other applications behave this way. I looked thru workspace and xpad preferences, made multiple changes, but no joy. I uninstalled Xpad and deleted config files, reloaded Xpad and got the same result. So, what gives? Is this a bug?

I contacted Mate, who manage 'workspace switcher', and they say it's not their issue.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for reporting this issue.
What version of Xpad do you use?

The package manager shows: 4.2-0ubuntu1 I didn't know to save the
version number of the one I was using in Mint 13, and wouldn't know how
to retrieve it.

With nothing (I wanted) to do this afternoon I looked again at this issue. It turns out that changing the view of one Xpad to 'no window decorations' and then back to 'window decorations' causes all existing Xpads to display in the existing workspace and in the 'workspace switcher'. This does not apply to new workpads and does not hold thru a reboot. I imagine to a person familiar with the code this makes sense, but to me it's just a curiosity.

Hi Mike,

This is definitely an interesting observation, where maybe the solution is more or less provided.
When one of the Xpad developers has a happy moment, we'll look into it and might fix this issue for the next planned release.

That might be me. :)

Cheers,
Arthur.

Hi Mike,

I have tried to reproduce your problem, however I think I am missing some parts.
This is what I have done.

Install Linux Mint 17.2 x64
Install Xpad 4.2 (from repository)
Add the workspace switcher to the panel
Create a pad / note
Make it sticky by choosing 'Show on all workspaces'.
Click around by using the workspace switcher on the panel.
I see the pad appear on all workspaces.

I guess I am misunderstanding the problem.
Can you explain to me in detail how I can reproduce the issue?

I use the Mate desktop and the Workspace Switcher applet shows an icon
within the Switcher icon for each open application. Some applications
show their unique icons (e.g. Cherrytree, Firefox, Libre Office), others
just a blank 'window' icon. When I look at the Switcher icon I see the 4
workspaces and icons for all open applications, except Xpad. I can also
see which workspace is not being used by the absence of icons.

I can get the Xpad icon within Switcher by turning View/Window
Decorations off and on, but it doesn't hold thru a reboot.

The Cinnamon desktop switcher does not have this feature, it only shows
the workspace numbers within the switcher icon. The Mate switcher can be
configured to show workspace names which suppresses the application icons.

Hope this helps.

Mike

Well, I am not sure if this is what you mean, however I have noticed that in version 4.2 pads without window decorations are not visible in the task switcher (alt-tab) and with window decorations are visible (-> I can alt-tab to it). I will test for Xpad 4.6 if this is also the case...

Same story for Xpad 4.6 (current dev)

After analysis it seemed that the pads are not visible in the workspace switcher and the taskbar, when window decorations are turned off. This relationship sounds nice, however it is nicer if you can just set your preference yourself.

Therefore I have added two new options in the preferences:

* hide from taskbar and task switcher (alt-tab)
* hide from workspace switcher

Will be released with v4.6
