Bug Description
As instructed, this is a split from bug 972310.
Related bugs:
Bug 973217: Show or hide technical items remains when nothing is there in Ubuntu Software Centre
Bug 973219: Ubuntu Software Centre does not display certain items in the Installed tab
Bug 973220: Ubuntu Software Centre halts when trying to display certain items in the Installed tab
Consider an item available from non-Canonical repositories, e.g. yad (ppa:webupd8tea
If the item is not yet installed (e.g. yad), Ubuntu Software Centre simply does not display it:
Using yad as an example:
1. Add yad's PPA (sudo apt-add-repository ppa:webupd8team
2. In Ubuntu Software Centre, go to the "All Software" tab.
3. Type "yad" into the search bar.
4. Only Yade displays. It should also display yad (yad can be seen in Synaptic Package Manager).
5. Fascinatingly, if you install the package (via the terminal or Synaptic Package Manager) and then uninstall it, Ubuntu Software Centre will now display it even after restarting the computer.

Hi Paddy. This one may indeed be the same as bug 973219. Please check my comment #1 there and see if you can view the "yad" package after clicking the "Show NN Technical Items" tab. If so, please let us know and both this and bug 973219 can be closed.
Thanks again!
