I have uninstalled the package and I confirm that the internal mic works
just by adding "model=auto".
$ cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.20.
$ uname -a
Linux frodo 2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 16 14:05:01 UTC 2009
x86_64 GNU/Linux
$ tail -n 1 /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
options snd-hda-intel model=auto
