Bug Description

On my Clevo laptop (P150EM) bluetooth is always turned on and it can not be turned of using the fn-key. This has worked fine under Ubuntu 12.10 with kernel 3.5.0. This seems to be related to current kernel versions.

Bluetooth turns on right when the kernel starts booting after grub.

I have tested:
- Ubuntu 12.10, kernel 3.5.0 - works
- Ubuntu 12.10, kernel 3.6.0 - works
- Ubuntu 12.10, kernel 3.6.11 - works
- Ubuntu 12.10, kernel 3.7.0rc1 - broken
- Ubuntu 12.10, kernel 3.7.9 - broken
- Ubuntu 12.10, kernel 3.8.0 - broken
- Ubuntu 13.04, kernel 3.8.0 - broken

Other people have that problem too:

I noticed this, when I tried to boot a newer kernel under Ubuntu 12.10 to fix my brightness fn-keys:

FYI, I don't reproduce the bug on Clevo W240HU/W250HUQ with Ubuntu 12.10 kernel 3.7.0-030700rc8 : my BT hotkey can enable and disable BT.

Maybe the issue only occurs on the P150EM/P170EM.
Here I found someone with a P150EM and he has the problem too. He is running Gentoo with a 3.7.2 kernel.

I played some more with the kernels found here:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

with the following results:
3.6.11-030611 - works
3.7.0-030700rc1 - broken

As can be seen in the lspci.txt I have an
Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.8 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for helping me with my problem. I just tested the latest upstream kernel and the bug still exists there.

This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug report[0]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.

Please follow the instructions on the wiki page[0]. The first step is to email the appropriate mailing list. If no response is received, then a bug may be opened on bugzilla.kernel.org.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. Yes, I will open an upstream bug report.
But I just noticed something else:
WIFI can't be turned off either.

When I push FN+F11 (to toggle Wifi) the LED turns off for less than a second and the Wifi-connection get disconnected. But then the LED comes right back ON and the Wifi gets reconnected.

Pete Hildebrandt, the next step is to bisect from 3.6.11 to 3.7.0rc1 in order to identify the offending commit. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ?

Hi, Christopher, I had to send my Clevo P150EM in for repair. I will try bisecting, when I have it back.

I have this problem as well with the same laptop. I am running Ubuntu 13.10 with 3.11.0-12-generic. I'm new to Ubuntu and Linux so forgive me if I mess up.

I am going to attempt the bisect.

I also have the same results for the kernels mentioned although I have a Killer Wireless-N 1202 (Combined Wi-Fi and Bluetooth). I have attached the output from lspci (for the Wi-FI part) but it will not let me attach the one from lsusb (for Bluetooth) as well?
