Bug Description

On my Clevo P150EM the bluetooth and wireless are always on and the combinations Fn + F12 and Fn + F11 to turn them on and off do not work.

This was functional on Ubuntu 13.10 using the 3.6.11-030611 and was broken in 3.7.0-030700rc1 both mainstream. I have tested for myself. I am going to attempt the splice if that is what is needed.

A commit bisect notes the regression commit is:

Daniel Dean, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc1

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

Thanks

I have tested 3.13-rc1 in which the problem still exists. The tags and status are updated.

I should add that I have noticed the bluetooth cannot be turned off whatsoever but the wireless can be turned off via the top-bar dropdown just not Fn + F11.

Daniel Dean, the next step would be to fully commit bisect from 3.6.11-030611 to 3.7.0-030700rc1 following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection . Could you please do this and report the offending commit?

Wifi on-off appears to now be fixed although it is a little slow to respond.

I am slightly confused by the bisect as a type 'git bisect start 3.6.11 3.7' and then 'git bisect good' then 'make' the kernel and I get 'linux-image-3.6.4-custom' and 'linux-header-3.6.4-custom'?

This bug isn't fixed. I have changed the status back to 'incomplete' I hope this is correct.

It is only the WiFi that I have found is able to be turned on and off using Fn+F11 running 3.11.0-14 but it is slow to respond and often takes several attemps. It has always been possible to turn WiFi on and off using the Settings in Ubuntu.

The problem with Bluetooth being stuck on and unable to be turned of via the Fn+F12 or the Settings in Ubuntu still stands and I am attempting to bisect between good and bad kernels to solve this. It is taking me sometime as I am not really sure what I am doing. I have some spare time to do this later in week so will hopefully be able to report the results then.

I've attached the result of my bisect. Hopefully it is correct.

Following this I've updated my '/etc/default/grub' to include the below after searching using the first bad commit and it has fixed the problem.

# To fix Wifi and Bluetooth
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="acpi_osi=\"!Windows 2012\""

I found lots of users of various laptops with the same problem so I'm not sure if this counts as a bug or not.

Thaks

Daniel Dean, thank you for commit bisecting. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one. Could you please report this problem through the appropriate channel by following the instructions _verbatim_ at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel#KernelTeam.2BAC8-KernelTeamBugPolicies.Overview_on_Reporting_Bugs_Upstream ?

Please provide a direct URL to your post once you have made it so that it may be tracked.

Thank you for your understanding.
