Bug Description

I can reproduce by pressing Alt, but I think this is normal since that`s being caught by the HUD normally. For anything else, I`d say it`s localization-related. I can`t begin to explain why this would happen only in evolution, but I also know that evolution doesn`t treat AltGr specially.

Also, works for me with French (Canada) to add an "@" which is done with AltGr+2.

I can't reproduce this with the "Italian" or "French (Swiss)" keyboad mappings either. Anyone can provide me with a different way to try to reproduce this?

Of course, I'm not running on the development release, but I can't see any difference in the keyboard related packages I could think of. I'll get to another Precise machine to test this again.

We're closing this bug since there has not been a response from the original reporter. However, the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. If you're not the original reporter, we'd prefer you file a new bug report.

Some tips:

  * Report X.org bugs via the command: `ubuntu-bug xorg`

  * Test against the latest development Ubuntu. http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/
Bugs marked as affecting the development version tend to get priority attention.

  * The `xdiagnose` utility has functionality for enabling debugging and
analyzing a few common X problems.

  * Tag your bugs with the Ubuntu versions you have reproduced the issue in.

  * See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting for tips on writing good bug reports.

I do NOT agree with expiring this bug. The problem is still present. Easy to reproduce: italian keyboard, press AltGr key and you get ", " (comma followed by a blank character), in the text fields To:, Cc:, Bcc: as again showed in the attached screen shot. Note that using an italian keyboard the @ character is obtained pressing AltGr+ò key.

Same behaviour on Swiss keyboard (CH-fr), where the @ character is obtained by pressing "AltGr + 2".

What's interesting: if pressed as first character in the blank To, CC or BCC field, then "AltGR +2" gives a @, correctly.
However, if anything precedes (as in case of an e-mail address, a comma followed by a blank space appear as soon as the AltGr key is pressed.

Sandra Farnedi, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-evdev REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hi, I can confirm this bug on Ubuntu 13.10 with "German (eliminate dead keys)" keyboard setting. In order to procude the '@' character with a German keyboard, you have to press and hold 'AltGr', then press 'q', the latter being in the same location as on a US keyboard.

Confirm this bug in Ubuntu 14.04 Evolution 3.10.4, Keyboard German (Austria).
For reproduction it is sufficient to press 'Alt Gr' after at least one character in the "To" field. No further keystrike required. Comma and blank appear immediate at keystrike.

The same issue exists in Ubuntu 14.04, Evolution 3.10.4 with the Hungarian keyboard layout, where You have to press AltGr + V to get the @ character. If any character is already present in any of the address fields then after pressing AltGr to type the @ immediately a ', ' appears, similarly to clicking back and forth with the mouse between the fields. I.e. some kind of next address autocomplete function is triggered.

This bug is still present in Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf (development branch)

Both alt and altgr produces an unexpected comma character when pressed after other msc. characters in the "to" and "cc" input fields in evolution mail. Using danish keyboard with nodeadkey.

I still haven't been able to reproduce this in any other programs than evolution, so the bug should probably be reported on evolution instead. However I have created a new bug as suggested in #34.
