I like the point about differentiating mono and proportional text, because I had a run-in with that myself recently. I use the Liberation fonts as defaults in Firefox, and the post I had been reading mentioned something about "an `a` tag". Because the 'a' characters in Liberation Sans and Mono look almost identical, it took me far longer to parse that sentence than it should have.

As someone who spends a lot of time staring at source code on three different OSes, I'm quite eager to test the beta version.
