The problem affects multiple OS versions and resolutions. So I guess it's a bug in Windows 7, 8 and 10 as well.

*Temparary solution*
I generated a version of the ubuntu light and bold types, using fontsquirrel.com.
I checked 'remove kerning' and made the x-height match with some other fonts, like arial, verdana and courier. The result is that the characters 'v' and 'w' now are displayed correct.

Using the 0.83 version of Ubuntu the presentation of field like 'labels' an 'gridvalues' in our software results in a lower position of the characters (2px) which were cut off at the bottom, because of that. Using the generated version using fontsquirrel.com, this problem seems to be solved.

I think it has something to do with the x-heigt of the Ubuntu font and/or the kerning between the characters.

But of course this is a temporary fix which I hope you can fix for the long term. I like to update once in a while to keep the font up-to-date.
