Bug Description

when attempting to see the changelog of a package, mintupdate says that you should check the 'download source code' option.

Even when this is done, and mintupdate is run again, changelogs are not downloaded.

Attached is a screenshot of the problem.

Applies to mintupdate 4.3.7

Same here with 4.3.8

It doesn't show any Changelog, I only saw very few ones from Mint packages and mostly there were cut off in the middle (which seems to be a known issue https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/845099)

If have marked all LinuxMint Software sources (from Main packages until Source code), downloads from Main server, and in other software I have enabled all repositories that come by default with the installation plus about 20 additional repositories.

I was trying to review changelogs for recent updates on Linux Mint 13 Maya, using mintUpdate 4.4.1 and it's not working. Looks like bug #824708 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/aptitude/+bug/824708) pins it as a problem with aptitude vs. apt-get changelogs.

I tried the command-line apt-get changelog as noted in the ticket #824708 and it works fine. So that's a nice workaround for now, but it would sure be nice to have it working right in mintUpdate also.

As of 6/9/2012, Bug #824708 claims to be fixed, so maybe mintUpdate changelogs will start working again when the upstream aptitude fix is pulled into Mint.

I can see the logs just fine in Synaptic, but they do not show up in mintupdate.

$ apt-cache policy mintupdate
mintupdate:
  Installed: 4.4.2
  Candidate: 4.4.2
  Version table:
 *** 4.4.2 0
        700 http://packages.linuxmint.com/ maya/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The option for "Sources" is ticked.

This is related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/aptitude/+bug/824708. aptitude can't show changelogs currently, and mintUpdate is using aptitude to fetch the changelogs. I've submitted a fix to mintUpdate here https://github.com/linuxmint/mintupdate/pull/6.

You can easily patch your mintUpdate with the following steps http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=111839#p628038.

Also, mintupdate should find a way to display (remotely created, to the
mintupdate user) md5sums of packages.

I'm using Linux Mint 16 KDE. When I try to see changelogs, 99% of the times I am informed there's no changelog information available. With this version of Linux Mint, I am not suggested to add the source repositories to get changelogs. Even if I do, I get the same result. After all, it doesn't make sense that I have to add source repositories just to get the changelogs of binary packages!!
Also, my system is using a version of aptitude that is supposed to contain the fix for the changelogs to work (my aptitude version is 0.6.8.2), however changelogs do not work.

I remember I couldn't see any changelogs even in my old Linux Mint 10 KDE... a long time has passed but no improvement has been done in this area :-(

@chemicalfan: I'm using the update manager (which I suppose is mintUpdate).
