Bug Description

Running on powerpc, the launcher only responds to hovering the mouse over the top left area with the ubuntu icon. it does not respond to moving the mouse to the left screen edge. Changing the option in the settings/launcher menu doesn't make any difference

Same behaviour in unity-2d on x64. I guess it's actually just meant to work like that and is not a bug at all.

Nope, the new default of Unity 3D is to un-hide on mouse touching the left edge. Maybe this is an architecture-specific issue?

Unity 2D may not have implemented the 'unhide on mouse touching left edge' yet.

Unity 2D works the same on my PPC and x64 computers: hover anywhere over the ubuntu button and the menus show. On 3D the edge and top left corner work properly depending on the setting. On PPC I can't test 3D obviously :-/

It would make sense for 2D and 3D to have as many similarities as possible, maybe even to both read the setting registered by System Settings / Launcher and Menus, which is clearly only used by 3D at the moment.

FWIW I prefer the way the 2D menu works, but the 3D way is more similar to other OSs

This is indeed a discrepancy with unity-3d, not intended, it should be fixed.

This bug affecting me too, I move the mouse to the left and the launcher does not appear, I must hover over the top left icon to see it appear.

I would just comment that the 'dwell' time is different (longer) for the edge push display than for the top left corner. Maybe these could be set to the same before the code is merged?

Or maybe just disable the top-left corner selection?

Same behaviour.
I think it should be fixed soon because it results annoying to move the mouse to the top left corner when it could be sufficient with moving it only to the left...
