Unselectable bitmap fonts appear in font menu

Bitmap fonts such as "Terminus" (available from the xfonts-terminus package in Debian/Ubuntu) appear in the font selection menu in Inkscape. However, when they are selected, Inkscape falls back to the default "Sans" font. The bitmap fonts should either be selectable, or they should be excluded from the menu.

Note that this does not affect Ubuntu by default, because bitmap fonts are disabled in fontconfig. To reproduce this in Ubuntu, the /etc/fonts/conf.avail/70-no-bitmaps.conf file must temporarily be removed.

Reproduced with Inkscape 0.48+devel r10035 on OS X 10.5.8:
terminal-font @4.28 installed via MacPorts displays correctly in the font selector of the 'gtk-demo' application (GTK+ 2.22).
In Inkscape the font is
- listed in the font selector drop-down list of the text tool controls bar (including a correct preview),
  but switched back to 'Sans' as soon as selected.
- listed in the 'Text and Font…' dialog,
  but rendered with 'Sans' in the preview.
