Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

I can't play flash videos on full screen mode in either firefox or google chrome. Whenever i toggle to full screen mode i can hear sound, but the video gets stuck. (e.i Youtube, vimeo, hulu and more.)

To reproduce:
--Must be using an intel graphics chipset with the intel driver. Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series chip used here--
1) Have compiz as the window manager (Important!)
2) Start firefox (3.6.11 in this case)
3) Play any youtube video
4) Click the button to initiate fullscreen
5) See a black screen but hear videos sound

Excellent. During a distribution upgrade, firefox config files can become corrupt which is what happened in your case. The good news is its an easy fix. Bad news is your loose all firefox preferences including bookmarks if they are not synchronized.

To fix run the following command.

sudo rm -r ~/.mozilla

Start firefox normally now and the problem will be solved.

Thats what I figured would happen. It looks like compiz is not working with your Intel Graphics card. Using metacity solves the issue. It is not an issue with firefox but rather your intel driver. It is a hardware problem thus I was not able to reproduce it. I am going to see what we can do with this bug, being that it is hard to replicate without proper hardware. In the meantime you can use the simple fix of using metacity.

Go to System>Preferences>Startup applications
Click Add
Name it Metacity
In the command box type: metacity --replace
Click Add again to add it

Now it should be fine even when restarting.

I can confirm the same issue. The problem manifested after an upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 (stable). I then did a fresh install of 10.10 in an effort to resolve the issue but it persisted.

I've also been experiencing issues with normal video playback. The load of my X301 shoots to 4, 6 and even 8 while top doesn't show anything which suggests why... I think I may have improved the issue by disabling "Visual Effects" and then enabling again, but the fullscreen flash video is still very fiddly (play fulls screen 1 in maybe 5 attempts).

Hey Stevenson,

Thanks for your interest in Ubuntu.

Thanks for testing maverick during its development period. Unfortunately it looks like this bug report didn't get attention during the maverick development period. But I see there's not been more comments on the bug since the release, which makes me wonder if this is still an issue for you?

If you've not seen this issue since maverick's release yourself, it may have been solved by kernel or X or other updates that occurred late in the release; if so, would you mind please closing the bug for us? Go to the URL mentioned in this bug report, click the yellow icon(s) in the status column and set to 'Fix Released'.

If you no longer have the hardware needed to reproduce the problem, or otherwise feel the bug no longer needs tracked in Launchpad, you can set the status to 'Invalid'.

If you are the original reporter and still have this issue, just reply to this email saying so. (Or set the bug status to Confirmed.) If you are able to re-test this against 11.04 Natty Narwhal (our current development focus) and find the issue still affects Natty, please also run 'apport-collect <bug-number>' while running natty, which will add fresh logs and debug data, and flag it for the Ubuntu-X development team to look at.

Fwiw, I'd read about a known issue in flash a while back with symptoms strikingly similar to this one. Don't know if it's the same problem, but I don't think it's fixed; in any case that one was a flash issue, nothing we could do from the X side to work around it.

Anyway, I guess what we should do is close this as fixed. If people still have a similar issue, I think it would be easier to handle that as a new bug report.

Changed in xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu):
