Bug Description

When installing Ubuntu, when you have the option of partitioning the disk, the graph shows pretty colors and where goes what, but unfortunately it does not tell me if the partition where Ubuntu will go is Ext3, Ext4 or Reiser or whatnot, My suggestion is to add a legend button that pops up a color code so the more caring users know what kind of filesystem is to be in their hard disks after install.

This is a papercut because even if functionality is not altered with this feature, it can save you a headache when you realize that you thought it would install Ext4 but it was actually Ext3 (the default), forcing some users to a complete reinstall.

Can you please explain the problem in a bit more detail?

From your post I understand that the issue is:

"Users who *do* care what filesystem they use cannot access that information during intallation."

How does this issue affect the users that just want to perform a default installation?

Well, its true that it does not affect the common user that just wants the system up and running, but when an user that wants some fine tuning of the install process or just some more info about it faces this situation, it would be better if the graph just reported what kind of filesystem is being installed.

In simpler words, it does not affect the common user, but it CAN affect users that are aware of the importance of such information.

Most users are not going to know the difference between filesystem types.
Adding more details may just risk an overload of information. I can't imagine another situation, other than the one you described with ext3 and ext4, where this would benefit the majority of users and be worth the risk.
Karmic Koala will use ext4 by default and so your use case applies only to Jaunty.

Won't most users who care deeply about this sort of thing use manual partitioning, which shows this information?

In any case, the filesystem type is already displayed later, on the installation summary page. Partitioning changes aren't committed until after that, so you can go back and change things if they aren't to your liking. Can you confirm whether this satisfies your request?

@Lightbreeze: well, that be true, so for Karmic this will be true...

@Colin Watson: well, this I never realized, but hey, its true... yes, this satisfies me :)

OK, now, how do I close this bug request :p
