Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

TEST CASE:
1. perform regular hardy->jaunty kubuntu upgrade
2. check that guidance-power-manager is still installed afterwards (e.g. via dpkg -l guidance-power-manager|more)
3. restore the system to intrepid
4. run "update-manager --proposed" and upgrade again
5. check that after the install guidance-power-manager is no longer installed

At the end of upgrading Kubuntu 8.04 to 9.04 the user is prompted to remove some packages. guidance-power-manager is not included in that list of packages despite it being included in the ForcedObsoletes= for kubuntu-desktop.

The package is called kde-guidance-powermanager in 8.04.

It looks like there is a additional dependency " kde-guidance-powermanager" that caused the "extra-careful" logic in update-manager to intervene.

I can add that to the forced obsoletes (that will fix the issue). Or I put "guidance-power-manager" to the PostUpgradeRemove line, that will remove it earlier and the user will not have a chance to opt-out of it. Whatever is more approopriate.

    - ensure brasero is upgraded (thanks to Chris Jones for
      the report) (LP: #364136)
    - ensure guidance-power-manager is removed on upgrade
      (LP: #364620)
  * DistUpgrade/DistUpgradeCache.py:
    - support DistUpgradeCache.markUpgrade()
  * DistUpgrade/mirrors.cfg:
    - add "mirror.files.bigpond.com" (thanks to wgrant)
  * debian/control:

      the nvidia-common if is included in the internal copy of
      u-m
  * DistUpgrade/DistUpgradeQuirks.py:
    - when the upgrade starts, remove old hal.postinst to prevent
      the trigger from running that causes network-manager to shutdown
      all connections (LP: #327053)
  * UpdateManager/Core/MetaRelease.py, UpdateManager/MetaReleaseGObject.py:
    - fix "no longer supported" message (LP: #364583)

Based on testing I've done, it appears this fix addresses the issue on Intrepid; however, on kubuntu upgrades from hardy -> jaunty, I'm still seeing guidance-power-manager installed:

$ dpkg -l *guidance*

| Status=Not/Inst/Cfg-files/Unpacked/Failed-cfg/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend

rc kde-guidance 0.8.0svn20080103-0ubuntu16.2 collection of KDE system administration tools for GNU/Linux
ii kde-guidance-powermanager 4:4.2.0-0ubuntu2 A frontend to HAL's power features for KDE (dummy package)

I've reproduced this by converting jriddell's 8.04->9.04 script at http://people.ubuntu.com/~jriddell/9.04-upgrade/kubuntu-8.04-to-9.04-beta-upgrade to point at the jaunty-proposed code and have attached /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log from the attempt.

(I assume not publishing the update to http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/{jaunty,jaunty-updates}/main/dist-upgrader-all/current/jaunty.tar.gz was intentional?)

Done. Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help diagnose this; it's fairly easy for me to reproduce.
