I am using Ubuntu 8.10 and running firefox 3.0.5. When I try to view videos on you tube or any other website with streaming video, I have no sound. I have sound with all other applications like dvds and music, but no sound on videos. My plugins are up to date, but I still can not figure it out.

I am also having this problem but i figure it out. There may be a firefox running in background

In terminal type "killall firefox" it will close all firefox. If you start firefox then you hear the sound.

Hope you can understand this.

Did not work. Firefox was not running in the background.

I just tried it on Firefox/3.0.15 after having run "Update Manager" to get the latest fixes. Still no workee.

I have had this issue for at least 6 months. Are there any plans to work on it? It seems like a pretty significant issue. In any case, I resorted to using XP where the issue doesn't seem to occur.

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with Firefox 3.5.5 and cannot hear sounds on the internet.
My computer plays music CD's and DVD's without any problem.
Could it be a plugin or add-on that is causing the problem?
