Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging firefox at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs/

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (please provide a screenshot if possible).
Thanks!

Samuel, I don't think you wanted the bug to be assigned to you so I removed that assignment. Again (as duanedesign already asked), please describe what you are doing very clearly step by step, otherwise we will no be able to track this bug down. Thanks.

I have the same problems with Firefox 3.0.6 on Ubuntu 8.10 for x86. Here it is a screenshot:

Answering to duanedesign questions could seem very silly:

1. No specific steps are needed to cause the problem, just opening Firefox!
2. I expected all tabs to appear (that's silly)
3. I actually cannot see that minimize-unmaximize-close window (that's silly too)

The only workaround for me is pressing twice F11 key each time I'd like that bar to get back. In previous versions of Firefox the workaround was "definitive" in a way: I mean it was sufficient to the following steps just once and the defect disappeared till getting back to this last firefox update. The workaround was to press F11 twice, then press the unmaximize button of firefox window, close it, opening ff again and maximizing it... or twice F11, unmaximize and maximize, then close and opening it back.

Same problem using Konqueror
Version 4.1.4 (KDE 4.1.4)
Using KDE 4.1.4 (KDE 4.1.4)

 on the same Ubuntu box!!!

So, I suppose it's not a strictly related to Firefox problem.

please check whether disabling your download status bar extension helps. If not disable the others as well to rule out extension issues.

oh .. you say you are not seeing window decorations at all?... most likely your window manager crashes. Lets start triaging this in compiz; have you tried to disable desktop effects (not sure where that is in kubuntu)?

Also try to use the free "ati" driver and not fglrx.

I don't know what download status bar extension are you referring to. I disabled no extension, I just disabled desktop effects (I'm in Ubuntu) and that was the workaround! Both Firefox and Konqueror windows decoration appear without problems (enabling desktop effects will cause back the problem on restarting Firefox and Konqueror).

Why should I install ATI drivers, considering I have an Intel Video card?

I am also experiencing this this on an AMD64 system. Gnome desktop environment. I do not believe the window decorator is crashing as pressing F11 twice fixes the display issue. When I disable COMPIZ, the problem goes away. Is there a specific place that does 'per window/application' special operations that can be poked at to try and see if it is a setting that can be tweaked to stop this rather annoying behavior?

I think I found a way to "undo" this behavior.

Open firefox.
F11 x 2
UN-MAXIMIZE (If Maximized)
Reduce size of firefox window to fit inside of desktop.
File -> Quit
Open firefox.
Maximize
File -> Quit
Open firefox.

It should now be sized to the desktop correctly.

This implies that there is a bug, related to requested window size and condition, as saved by firefox.

 If you right-click on the panel and change the properties to show hide buttons and arrows on hide button checked you can click the arrows and find the close button under the panel so you can resize the window.
