Bug Description

I have kompare-4:4.2.0-0ubuntu1~intrepid1 installed on Ubuntu 8.10 from intrepid-backports. Everytime I close Kompare with the diff window (not the file open wizard) in maximized mode and then open it again with the file name of a patch (or two files to be compared) specified on the command line, the window title bar and the window frame of the diff window are gone and the window fills the whole screen, so I can't make it go back into windowed mode again.

The only solution to have it start in windowed mode again is then to edit my ~/.kde/share/config/komparerc and remove the "Width" and "Height" lines in the [General Options] section.

This is the full komparerc that makes it "broken" (which actually is the config after Kompare, i.e. the diff window, has been closed in maximized mode):

[General Options]
Height 1024=1025
State=AAAA/wAAAAD9AAAAAQAAAAIAAAUAAAAAu/wBAAAAAfsAAAAUAE4AYQB2AGkAZwBhAHQAaQBvAG4BAAAAAAAABQAAAAG6AP///wAABQAAAALlAAAABAAAAAQAAAAIAAAACPwAAAABAAAAAgAAAAEAAAAWAG0AYQBpAG4AVABvAG8AbABCAGEAcgEAAAAAAAAFAAAAAAAAAAAA
Width 1280=1281

I can reproduce this behaviour with 4:4.1.4-0ubuntu1~intrepid1.1 and 4:4.1.2-0ubuntu1 too.

Maybe it is important that my screen is 1280x1024, and I'm running gnome-1:2.24.0-0ubuntu1 with compiz-1:0.7.8-0ubuntu4.1.

I have the same problem.
1360x768 here, so it's not the size that matters...
I think kompare mixes maximized window and full screen mode.

I got the same problem yesterday with umbrello. Same behaviour here, if you close while the windows is maximized, there is no window decoration on next start and window covers the whole screen.

Today I updated to 4:4.2.2-0ubuntu1~intrepid1 from backports, and I can still reprduce the bug for both umbrello and kompare. Additionally, I tried it with a few other programs from KDE and even got it too with cervisia, kcachegrind, dolphin, kuiviewer, kbugbuster, kblackbox, katomic, kbounce, kgoldrunner, kmines, knetwalk, konqueror, and kpatience, but it is not the case with kate, kblocks, kdiamond.

Hellos.

It would be very nice if you could test if this issue is also valid with MetaCity (i.e. GNOME's default window manager). Compiz has caused similar issues in the past and that this bug affects that many applications, but not all, seems rather weird from a KDELibs point of view.

Have a nice day :)

Yeah, the issue is really gone without compiz. Thanks for the hint.

I encounter this issue since today with Umbrello. Removal (manually) of 'Geometry 1440,900' in umbrellorc fixes it until the next start of Umbrello.

Umbrello worked for me in the past. Regression?

My system:
Ubuntu Lucid 10.4 with updates installed, no backport repositories

Did compiz or umbrello received updates recently?
