Bug Description
This has happened twice. The only thing I can relate to the two incidents is watching a movie on Totem Movie Player.
Basically the clock freezes in the panel (this has caused me to get almost no sleep one time already :p). See attached.
Rebooting/
First Ubuntu bug, so please let me know how I can help get to the bottom of this.

It does not display the calendar. I will provide a backtrace asap.

Forgive me for being ignorant, but what would be the correct command to install debugging in place of :
sudo apt-get install yelp-dbgsym=
from the link provided above? Do I need debugging for gnome in general or just the clock applet (if possible)?
Alejandro Martín Covarrubias (alex-covarrubias) wrote : | #6 |
This happens to me too, I have Ubuntu 8.10 x64 and have installed 2 times for this reason, the clock don't refresh the panel but if I click it the calendar appears and if I right click and select adjust time, the time it shows it's the right time but when I exit the panel the clock stays unchanged.
Saludos/Greetz

This happens maybe once every week on my computer. No totem.
$ apt-cache policy gnome-panel
gnome-panel:
Installed: 1:2.24.1-0ubuntu2.1
Candidate: 1:2.24.1-0ubuntu2.1
Version table:
*** 1:2.24.1-0ubuntu2.1 0

100 /var/lib/

It happens that the clock resumes and shows the correct time again. Maybe after clicking on it.
Thomas Novin (thomasn80) wrote : | #9 |
Now my clock has stopped. I have also lost all my icons in the notification area. They are still there, I can get mouseover tooltips and clicking on them works. If I open the clock applet the current time is running.
Doing a 'killall gnome-panel' restarts the whole gnome-panel and gets it working again.
Thomas Novin (thomasn80) wrote : | #10 |
Just happened again :) My calendar is shown when I single-click the clock.

mckinleysh, "yelp" was just an example. The debug package for gnome-panel is gnome-panel-dbg, so to install it type:
sudo apt-get install gnome-panel-dbg

How do I debug this situation? Gnome-panel is automatically started by something, if I kill it it re-starts again so I cannot run it manually under gdb.
Should I perhaps attach gdb to the running process? I'll give that a try as long as I wait for a reply..
Martin Mai (mrkanister-deactivatedaccount-deactivatedaccount) wrote : | #13 |
You can also obtain backtraces of programs that are already running. Have a look at https:/

Sorry, I overread your second paragraph :). Yes, since it crashes after being started, this should be enough.

I have the same problem, clock in panel freezes without any obvious reason. There is nothing I can relate this behavior to. In panel clock does freeze, but when I open clock applet it shows correct time. Interesting in my case is that same time when clock freeze my network manager icon becomes invisible. Network is functioning normally and icon is there (I can see empty space) but literally becomes invisible. If I do left or right click on space where nm ought to be I get menu and can modify options. It simply becomes invisible.

Hello... I have now got the freeze while running with gdb attached.
Symptom:
Quick launch icons works
Main Menu works
Notify-icons works, but if I use something that is supposed to be animated it isn't animated
Netspeed applet has stopped
The clock has stopped
Thomas Novin (thomasn80) wrote : | #17 |
@chaghaboo: My notification icons also gets invisible sometimes but not always. They always stop updating.

I'm not programmer so I don't really know what to do with gdb. I found
instructions how to install it, but even I install it by those manuals I
found I woudn't know how to attach gdb to evolution-
what will happen.

We'd like to figure out what's causing this bug for you, but we haven't heard back from you in a while. Could you please provide the requested information? Thanks!

Hi Martin,
I've been trying but the problem is that after running command sudo apt-get
update I get this message:

W: You may want to run apt-get update to correct these problems
I've been following this guide:

As a newbie I'm not sure what to do to fix this or would it be just fine to
ignore it and continue by the guide.

@Martin Wei:
I have tried getting info from evolution-
@chaghaboo:
That warning is not about the archive you added from the guide at https:/
You have some PPA archive added for which you don't have a key installed. Seems harmless but to fix usually you can go to https:/

Can't work it out, simply don't have enough technical knowledge for this nor
time to learn everything in order to understand. I even tried to install and
find problem with bug buddy, as it should be for people like me, but didn't
have luck with it either.

Noticed that I had two processes and now my clock has resumed working again. Maybe my crash was something out of the ordinary. I will resume running with gdb attached.

Hi Sebastian,
no it didn't happened since I'm on Jaunty, and that's from the very first
day Jaunty was released.

Clock freezes here on my 10.10 as well. Anyone can confirm that this has to do with the 'expand' option in the panel properties dialog?
This only seems to happen on my system when I uncheck the 'expand' option. Also in the evidence image from the initial bug reporter you can see a panel that is not expanded!
