[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
package: hplip
version: 2.8.6.b-1
severity: wishlist
tags: upstream

Hi,

recently I bought a cheap "HP usb network print adapter", regulator model:
SDCAB-07-06, which doesnt work at all with linux.

I guess, upstream needs to add this functionality to hplip, there is nothing
you, the maintainers can do, since it doesnt seem to use either ipp or
jetdirect. According to nmap, it listens on port 34447 and sometimes (?!) on
34448.

are similar requests...

regards,
        Holger

HPLIP does not currently support the HP Wireless Upgrade Kit (and similar produce models). We've added this to our todo list for review in the future, however I can't give any ETA on when/if/ever this device will be supported.

We do have a unit to test with and have confirmed that it will require a bit to get it working.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Thanks for your support of HPLIP.

Aaron

Hello Aaron,
I have this device too. Do you have any update on the status of support?
I'm an open source developer without any experience with hplip whatsoever, but I am pro helping projects by fixing problems I'm having myself. So I'd like to know what's going on now; also, once I've found some free time I'll make a network dump with Wireshark if nobody's done that yet, and maybe check out hplip's source if there's some place to start with (coding or anything).
Thanks.

Are there plans to add this feature anytime soon? Is there anything we can do help get this done?

Hey everyone,

Just a little addition. As long as you have a windows machine attached to the network with the HP software installed and working on it, you can still share that printer via samba (as windows believes that it's using a USB connection). It means you have to leave the windows machine turned on in order to print off the linux based one, but it's better than nothing in the meantime.

Compist:

Your advice is very dangerous because of printfile format differences between CUPS (Mac and Linux) and Windows. With many HP printers (including my experience with the HP Officejet 5610 All-in-One) following Compist's advice will jam the printer queue on the Windows machine being used as a print server. The only way to un-jam the printer queue if this happens is:

(1) Shut down the printer.
(2) Reboot the Windows computer to which the printer was attached, while the printer remains shut down.
(3) Delete all jobs submitted from CUPS computers from the queue(s).
(4) Remove the samba connections to windows print ques from all CUPS machines. Do NOT ever install them again.
(5) Turn the printer back on if you can use it with the Windows machine only.

I gave up on it long ago. Another printer is a cheaper solution than this adapter.
