Bug Description

Laptop: Samsung
OS: Xubuntu Trusty
(xcfe 4.12 dev ppa NOT ENABLED)

Since upgrading xfce4-power-manager to 1.2.0-3ubuntu4.1 (Trusty Updates) my laptop has started suspending when the lid is closed. I have it set to do nothing but the setting in power manager is being ignored.

It is like the problem when Trusty was first released.

At first I thought it was a problem with kernel updates but I rolled back to one that works fine and the problem persists.

Finally, I downgraded xfec4-power-manager to 1.2.03ubuntu-4 and the behaviour returned to normal. It is working correctly with the latest kernels too.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04
Package: xfce4-power-manager 1.2.0-3ubuntu4.1

Architecture: amd64
CurrentDesktop: XFCE
Date: Sat Mar 14 10:59:02 2015
EcryptfsInUse: Yes
InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-09-25 (169 days ago)
InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 14.04.1 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140723)
SourcePackage: xfce4-power-manager
UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)

Please reinstall 1.2.0-3ubuntu4.1 and run the following command:

$ xfconf-query -c xfce4-power-manager -p /xfce4-power-manager/logind-handle-lid-switch -s false

In case it does not solve the problem, test with setting the value to true:

$ xfconf-query -c xfce4-power-manager -p /xfce4-power-manager/logind-handle-lid-switch -s true

Changed in xfce4-power-manager (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

Thanks for the suggestion, Thad.

I will test it over the next 24 hours and let you know how it goes.

Cheers

Sorry, same behaviour. Just got home, opened my laptop and it had suspended
or hibernated - disconnected my internet and broken my VPN connection.

It must just be something to do with Samsung laptops. I have rolled back to
the good old original trusty version. I'm not having much luck with xfce
updates these days. Trying the new xfce4.12 dev ppa brings a whole world of
grief with thunar which has become unusable!

At least xfce4.10 in trusty is rock solid except for the update for power
manager.

Did you test both scenarios (logind-handle-lid-switch 1. false 2. false)?

Furthermore, did the upgrade to Xfce 4.12 resolve this bug?

Yes. Neither setting made any difference so I concluded it is something
incompatible with Samsung. It's always a gamble buying a new laptop brand.

I'd tried xfce4.12 and I can tell you that I had no problems with the new
version of xfce4-power-manager. Unfortunately, I am one of those people who
have been plagued by thunar crashes and I gave up and purged the 4.12 ppa.

I appreciate your help. It was worth a shot.
Thanks
Dave

The good news is that the thunar package in the 4.12 PPA has been updated some weeks ago (bug 1439288).

Maybe you could give it a try again.

Any news on this issue? Did you try Xfce 4.12 again?

Hi,

with the newer version of Thunar in the dev ppa I was finally able to
upgrade to xfce4.12 again.

No power problems detected so far.

Thunar isn't crashing either which I am grateful for but it did introduce
some new issues.

Thanks for following up.
