Yes. Neither setting made any difference so I concluded it is something
incompatible with Samsung. It's always a gamble buying a new laptop brand.
I'd tried xfce4.12 and I can tell you that I had no problems with the new
version of xfce4-power-manager. Unfortunately, I am one of those people who
have been plagued by thunar crashes and I gave up and purged the 4.12 ppa.
I appreciate your help. It was worth a shot.
