Thanks for the bug report! I'm looking into this now.

By default, automatic crash reports are Private, just in case they happened to contain any sensitive user data.

Do you mind if I make this bug report Public?

Not at all, please make it public if that’s helpful.

Winston, out of curiosity, are you using encrypted home directory or full disk encryption?

Not quite sure why I haven't been able to reproduce this yet, but those are two variables I haven't tested yet.

No to both. Not sure if David mentioned that I’m on an Apple iMac though, so perhaps it’s a hardware issue? Or a dual-boot funky partition table issue?

Does dmedia try to create a directory in every disk mounted? Perhaps it’s trying to work on my Mac partition that is formatted HFS+?

No, the only place Dmedia will *automatically* create a directory is within your Ubuntu home directory.

Looking at upstart.dmedia.log.txt, it looks like a strait-forward permission error, although I still can't figure out why you're experiencing this, yet I haven't been able to reproduce it myself.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any particular reason why your dual-boot setup with OSX would be causing problem, but obviously... one of these kids is not like the other :P

Can you walk me through the exact steps you went through after installing Dmedia/Novacut?

I'm afraid there's nothing interesting to tell. I installed novacut
according to wiki instruction and Youtube video instructions, then
launched novacut from the quick start menu at the top left. I've also
now tried reinstalling novacut and dmedia with no luck as well :(

Winston,

Thanks for your patience with this bug! I believe I have this fixed in this month's release (14.05), so I'd greatly appreciate if you would give this another try.

First, open a terminal make sure your packages are up-to-date:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Then run `novacut-reset` from the terminal to delete your previous Dmedia library:

novacut-reset

Then open Dmedia or Novacut, click on "New Account", and see if things work for you. Please let me know if things work now for you, or if you're still encountering this bug.

Hey-O, it works! Haven't been able to play with it much because all of
my media is stored on a Drobo and Drobo doesn't offer any support for
linux (wth?). Thanks for figuring it out and I'm sure I'll be in touch
with David about contributing at some point.
