No, the only place Dmedia will *automatically* create a directory is within your Ubuntu home directory.
Looking at upstart.dmedia.log.txt, it looks like a strait-forward permission error, although I still can't figure out why you're experiencing this, yet I haven't been able to reproduce it myself.
Off the top of my head, I can't think of any particular reason why your dual-boot setup with OSX would be causing problem, but obviously... one of these kids is not like the other :P
