Bug Description

I wanted to use 33 Gigabyte for Ubuntu and leave 41 Gigabyte for XP. I only got 3 Gigabyte for Ubuntu and it keeps complaining about not enough space. I tried to remove the old versions and run janitor but it refuses. None of the hints on the web don't
work either. They seem to refer discontinued software and repositories. My sound card ESS ES 1869 is not activated and it shows
dummy sound. The more I try the worse it gets !!! I tried Gpart but I am not quite advanced enough to use that either. There is no
description for the various partitions.

For more on installing LibreOffice please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LibreOffice .

As well, Lucid is EoL as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases . You would want to utilize a supported release when attempting to use Ubuntu. The latest stable LTS available is now http://releases.ubuntu.com/trusty/ .

Thank you for your understanding.

Hi Christopher,

Thank you for your response but I have no problem with "Libre". I have used "Libre" with no problems
it seems very much the same as OpenOffice. I didn't even mention it in my complaint.

I realise that 10.04 is finishing but it is the only disc that works. I burned 4 12.04 's and none work.
They load all the way with a display that looks normal ie the logo and moving dots but when it should
switch to the normal  front screen it shows the cursor arrow, flicks off and goes back to the flashing
cursor, tries to switch again and keeps repeating this ad infinitum.

My biggest problem is activating my ESS ES1869 soundblaster in an ISA bus, the computer shows it in
Dmesg.

I have made some changes, I had some small hard drives and am using them as slaves dedicated to Ubuntu.
I would appreciate some positive feedback, up to now most of the feedback has been wishy washy.

I used to be in electronics and though I picked up some PC skills over the years they are mostly microsoft
based.

Yours sincerely

Theo Bagchus

Hi Christopher again !

I will send you a DMESG extract to explain what I'm talking about. Meanwhile I managed to get Precise working again, but my sound problem still
exists. XP has no problem using it which proves that it is not a hardware or volume issue.

Best regards

Theo Bagchus

P.S. I used Libre to create this document.

Theo B, it is strongly advised to test out the latest LTS via http://releases.ubuntu.com/trusty/ to see if your sound problem is resolved.
