After some trial and error the apt-get command that eventually worked for me is:

sudo apt-get install -V libglapi-mesa-lts-raring libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-raring xserver-xorg-lts-raring xserver-xorg-input-all-lts-raring xserver-xorg-video-all-lts-raring libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-raring x11-xserver-utils-lts-raring libglapi-mesa-lts-raring:i386 libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-raring:i386 libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-raring:i386

Make sure to carefully check the suggested changes before proceeding to ensure that no essential packages are removed!

Thanks for yor quick comment. After playing a bit with apt-get I could get a successful upgrade of the xserver too. Even though there is a workaround, which simply consists on adding specific packages to the 'apt-get install' command, I don't know if this is something that should be fixed in general... Again, thanks!

I can confirm this bug in Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS (originally 12.04.1, then upgraded to Quantal HWE). The workaround in #2 worked for me but during installation I encountered some errors which had the following form:

      ...
    ERRORS: clementine depends on libgl1-mesa-glx | libgl1; however:
      Package libgl1-mesa-glx is not installed.
      Package libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-quantal:i386 which provides libgl1-mesa-glx is not installed.
      Package libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-quantal which provides libgl1-mesa-glx is to be removed.
      Package libgl1 is not installed.
      Package libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-quantal:i386 which provides libgl1 is not installed.
      Package libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-quantal which provides libgl1 is to be removed.
     compiz-plugins-main-default depends on libgl1-mesa-glx | libgl1; however:
      Package libgl1-mesa-glx is not installed.
      Package libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-quantal:i386 which provides libgl1-mesa-glx is not installed.
      Package libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-quantal which provides libgl1-mesa-glx is to be removed.
      Package libgl1 is not installed.
      Package libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-quantal:i386 which provides libgl1 is not installed.
      Package libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-quantal which provides libgl1 is to be removed.
    ....

Fortunately when the installation completed these dependency were resolved on their own.

This is the second time I encounter serious dependency issues while trying to install a hardware enablement stack. (previous issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-lts-quantal/+bug/1125413). I sincerely hope that these problems will be fixed by the next HWE release cycle.

Hi all,

I just experienced this bug for the saucy LTS enablement stack: Conflicts: libglapi-mesa:i386 (>= 0~)

Here is the command to solve the dependencies problems:

sudo apt-get install -V libglapi-mesa-lts-saucy libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-saucy xserver-xorg-lts-saucy xserver-xorg-input-all-lts-saucy xserver-xorg-video-all-lts-saucy libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-saucy x11-xserver-utils-lts-saucy libglapi-mesa-lts-saucy:i386 libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-saucy:i386 libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-saucy:i386

I was able to get around this problem by simply uninstalling the -lts-raring packages and then installing the -lts-saucy packages.

$ sudo apt-get remove linux-generic-lts-raring xserver-xorg-lts-raring libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-raring

$ sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-lts-saucy xserver-xorg-lts-saucy libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-saucy

Hello,

I can confirm the problems with the Xstacks too, there should be a smoother transition to new Xstacks (e.g. precise to saucy) and between Xstacks (e.g. raring to saucy) in LTS-versions.
Maybe it is possible to modify/tune the Xstack-meta-packages because it is not sufficient to install only package xserver-xorg-lts-saucy (and linux-generic-lts-saucy).

I had to use the following command (after removing the old Xstack with installing package xserver-xorg-lts-precise), but that is not smooth!

apt-get install -V libglapi-mesa-lts-saucy libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-saucy xserver-xorg-lts-saucy xserver-xorg-input-all-lts-saucy xserver-xorg-video-all-lts-saucy libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-saucy x11-xserver-utils-lts-saucy libglapi-mesa-lts-saucy:i386 libgl1-mesa-dri-lts-saucy:i386 libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-saucy:i386

Another problem is when using KDE/Kubuntu, you have to remove packages kde-workspace-dev libkwinactiveglesutils1 libkwinglesutils1.
After the installation you can install them again with "apt-get install kde-workspace-dev libkwinactiveglesutils1 libkwinglesutils1" and not with only "kde-workspace-dev" because dependency is broken.

The same with meta-package xorg-dev, it is broken too with the new Xstacks but installing single packages from this meta-package works.

It would be wise to check all dependencies (with a script) in the whole ubuntu repository for problems with the Xstacks and derived problems to get a better update/upgrade experience to Xstacks for the LTS-versions (at least for the new 14.04 LTS).

Thank you, best regards, Bernhard

Bernhard,

the Kubuntu Edition needs an extra package: libgles2-mesa-lts-saucy
in order to make the HES-upgrade run smooth.

This is Kubuntu-specific. See also -> https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kubuntu-devel/2013-October/007408.html
