Bug Description

Ever since I installed the new kernel, I am seeing this error on the text window when I go down for suspend:

[xxxxxx.yyyyyy] [drm6:rp_sanitize_pm] *ERROR* Power management discrepancy: GEN6_RP_INTERRUPT_LIMITS, expected: 1700000, was: 1206000

where "xxxxxx.yyyyyy" is a set of unpredictable (but increasing) 6-digit numbers. Is there a setting I need to change in the system to make this error go away, or is it a bug in the new kernel?

UPDATE: This error message appears once when I suspend, and again when I wake up from suspend. All of the previous error messages are on the screen when I suspend or wake up from suspend.

After a complete Shot Down then Power On the error message disapperaed.

@Robert Bernath: I just did that and the error disappeared for me, too. This error is probably because the two versions of the Linux kernel had different power requirements.

Never mind, it came right back when I put it to sleep again. Not solved yet.

Hans,
Unfortunately the same with me :(

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.9 kernel[0]. You will need to install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Still unable to log in after trying with daily/2013-05-12-precise, v3.10-rc1-precise, v3.3.6-precise, v3.4-precise and 3.9-rc8-raring
Same issue in each case (as with 3.2.0-41) attempting to log in to the desktop shows a black screen then returns to the login screen.

Slight misinformation, sorry. The initial issue with the "Power management discrepancy" message was resolved after bringing in an updated kernel. I was still unable to login (and the behaviour appeared similar) but in this case I was unable to login due to ~/.Xauthority being owned by root. chown david:david and it was fixed.

Same bug for me too. Everything's fine if I shut down my laptop and start it up again but if I wake up from sleep mode it shows this every time I wake. I don't notice anything else wrong with the computer except for this error message. It tends to build up as I put my computer in sleep mode a lot.

Hans Jorgensen, could you please provide an impact statement regarding how suspend is or isn't working, and if the message noted is just innocuous?

@penalvch: Yes, I'd be happy to provide an impact statement.

I don't perceive any problems with suspend or resume - it is working just fine, as it does on my Windows laptops (dual boot on the same system as well as an HP EliteBook work system). The message is innocuous. It is, however, still happening into v3.2.49, and sometimes the power discrepancy values are different (I can't remember them off the top of my head). The error doesn't always appear, either.

I think this issue affects me too.

I have a Gigabyte Z68MS-UD2H-B3 Motherboard with Precise and I got this error when coming back from suspend.

The latest kernel version not affected is 3.2.0.39

All other version show this issue.
I also tried with linux-image-3.2.49-030249-generic-pae. This did not show the message, but I am not so sure, because there where a lot of other message, maybe masking this "Power management discrepancy: GEN6_RP_INTERRUPT_LIMITS,.."

I hope this helps finding the problem.
