Bug Description

I have a Gigabyte Z68MS-UD2H-B3 Motherboard with Precise and I got this error when coming back from suspend.

The latest kernel version not affected is 3.2.0.39

All other version show this issue.
I also tried with linux-image-3.2.49-030249-generic-pae. This did not show the message, but I am not so sure, because there where a lot of other message, maybe masking this "Power management discrepancy: GEN6_RP_INTERRUPT_LIMITS,.."

Bernhard Wiedemann, as per http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3854#bios an update is available for your BIOS (F13). If you update to this, does it change anything?

If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Thank you for your understanding.

Christopher,

Hm that was not my smartest action ever...

You were right, using the latest BIOS version (F13) seems to fix the
issue. I tried some suspend-wakeup cycles with no problem. So no Linux
problem, but BIOS...

Thank you very much for your fast and productive help. This is great
with Linux.

best regards, Bernhard

Sorry, this was too quick.

I still got the error message right after resuming from supsend

"sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date" outputs
F13
02/21/2012

The messge appears right before the login screen appears at wakeing up from reboot, saying
[xxxxxx.yyyyyy] [drm6:rp_sanitize_pm] *ERROR* Power management discrepancy: GEN6_RP_INTERRUPT_LIMITS, expected: 1600000, was: 1206000

Sorry for the confusion...

Bernhard Wiedemann, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc3

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it and add the following tags:
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream
kernel-unable-to-test-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding.

Bernhard Wiedemann, could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Bernhard Wiedemann, would you need a backport to a release prior to Saucy, or may we close this as Status Invalid?

Christopher,

I am quite happy with my 12.04 and want to use it as "long Time Stable".
I think also 12.04 should be supported carefully.

My intention was, as you know, to give you some information related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1167669
which is the same as Bug 1208132 to my mind.

As I said: Something changed between Kernel 3.2.0.39 and 3.2.0.40.

I would be happy to help fixing the bug in 12.04 and can do whatever
test you want me to do. But I do not want to upgrade to the next non LTS
version of Ubuntu.

best regards, Bernhard

Bernhard Wiedemann, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu - Saucy Salamander.

This is a significant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, please do steps 1 and 2 of the SRU Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention.

Hi. Can anyone please clarify how can I check if the fix has been applied to the LTS-version? Will the fix be echoed in the ChangeLog of this page? http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise-updates/linux
I'm not a user of this distro and device that affected by the issue but my parent uses it and needs an update in LTS-version that I'll install by myself for her.

Thank you.
