Bug Description

Some windows seems to fall under the radar of Unity. They don't have small indicator triangles in the Launcher, and you can't tab to them using alt+tab. Which windows suffer from this seems very random. This video describes the problem:

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1069107/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

This bug MIGHT be related to this weird ubuntu tabbing phenomena, where Unity fails to sort the entries in the alt+tab list according to their recency of use:

I still see the bug. Today my terminal window lost it's small white triangle next to the terminal launcher icon. I couln't alt-tab to get to the terminal window either. I minimized all other windows and then I found my lone terminal window, all alone on the desktop. It still worked fine. I closed it and then tried to start a new terminal by clicking the terminal launcher icon in the launcher. Guess what: now new terminal window for me :(
After a reboot all was fine.
PS. this is a serious bug.

According to your original report, which you are pasting in your last reply, it seems that you are using unity-2d, is that right?

affects: unity → unity-2d (Ubuntu)

I'm using unity, not unity-2D. I've never used unity 2D on this machine.
It's a system76 laptop with an i5 processor, preinstalled with ubuntu, and
not tweaked in any way. I tried this:

jon@lemur:~$ echo $DESKTOP_SESSION
ubuntu

This output, supposedly, reveals that I'm not using unity 2D

I don't understand why my apport rapport mentioned unity 2D

It's strange because supposedly it was fixed long ago. Just to make sure also check "echo GDMSESSION".

affects: unity-2d (Ubuntu) → unity (Ubuntu)

Maybe not that strange: the apport report in this thread is quite old. I
haven't filled a new one now. Should I?
