Bug Description

I locked the screen and was running for couple of hours and when i unlocked i see the unity Desktop appearance got stretched. To elaborate even more, When i maximize google chrome and try to close the application, the left buttons are not visible. The application dock does not come up. I thought of uploading a screenshot of the problem that i am facing but in the screenshot the application dock is visible but in the actual system, the dock which is currently set to auto-hide does not un-hide itself. I don't see the clock at the top right as its gone way too right.

Ubuntu Version : 12.04.
Architecture : 64 Bit (AMD)

I use the linux nouveau driver and don't use any nvidia drivers

Seems like a driver issue. Does it happen with the nvidia drivers too?

It happens even with the nvidia drivers too. I don't think so its got to be with drivers because the other desktop environments work fine and don't seem to have any problems . I had this issue today morning too. The status menu to log out/shutdown wasn't even visible as it went towards the right on the screen and the unity dock couldn't un-hide itself again

Sorry for not asking for this originally, but which Unity version are you running, and which GPU do you have? Also, what's the nouveau/nvidia driver version?

Changed in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (Ubuntu):

I am running Ubuntu 12.04 (AMD 64 Bit) and with all the updates installed without using any unofficial PPAs so Unity should be the latest one. I have a Nvidia Chipset GM8500. Once i get the above mentioned problem i got to log out and log in back again. I have to save my work and log out and log in which is really frustrating. Let me know if you need more info.Precisely the Desktop just goes out of the screen boundaries when i lock the screen and unlock it after some time.

This seems like an issue with the lock screen.

If it happens again, then can you post a screenshot of the issue? That would be very helpful, thanks!

what i read is that unity is crashing when the user is unlocking the screen.. so this might have nothing to do with gnome-screensaver.

Yeah, it definitely seems like a Unity crash.

In that case, do you have any .crash files for compiz in /var/crash? If so, can you run the command

apport-bug /var/crash/NAME_OF_CRASH_FILE.crash

and file a new bug report for it? If that does work, then we can close this bug since apport will file a new one with all relevant details. Also, be sure to give us the bug number of the new bug if you file one.

Thanks!

I don't face this issue any more in Ubuntu 14.04. You could close this bug

Thanks,
